The 6.3-mile service will start shuttling passengers between terminals at 4:30 a.m. Thursday after two months of repairs. Workers had to replace parts of the running surface after holes developed.

The AirTrain station that links New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains along the Northeast Corridor also will be back in service.

Substitute shuttle buses that had provided alternate service will remain available and can operate if necessary between Newark’s Penn Station and the airport’s three terminals if there are any problems.

Newark airport is expected to handle more than 600,000 travelers through the six-day holiday period.
