New York – One of the nation’s largest newspapers says it will no longer use the name Redskins when writing about Washington’s NFL team.

The Daily News of New York said Thursday in a lead editorial titled “Sack the Name” that the reference will no longer be part of stories and columns. The name, however, may appear in quotations, reader letters and discussion of the dispute. Also, the logo of a feathered Native American will be dropped, replaced by an image that features team colors.
The editorial notes that language changes through the years, and “the time has come to leave the word behind.”
Other media outlets have also dropped the name. Last month, CBS analyst Phil Simms, who will handle Washington’s Week 4 game, said he likely won’t use the nickname.

Reading about the ruling of the US Patent and Trademark office against the Washington Redskins because some in the community feel offended, having been called the “Washington Redskins” since its existence, and now the NY Daily news refusing to print the name “redskins” when covering the football game, here is my request.
We all call it the “White House” since it was built, now in the last six years since we have a “Black” President it should no longer be called “White House” it should be called “Presidents House” since I’ know many in the African American community nationwide as well as others are offended.
All trademarks should be removed for the “White House”, Congress led by Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid should pass a bill not to mention the word “White House” again, print media such as the NY Daily News as well as all other news and cable should no longer refer it as the “White House” only as the “President’s House”.
Not everything thats written is “Black on White” and it should not be, it should be “other on white”, in business “black” is plus, “red” is minus, is the Daily News going to stop using the term “Black”, why are we calling it “Black Friday”.
