New York City – Mayor Bloomberg said today that the city will revoke the reserved parking spots enjoyed by four City Council members in front of their district offices.

Bloomberg said he talked to DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan after reading about the free spaces in this morning’s Daily News and told her “we’ve got to have one policy that’s reasonable.”
Bloomberg said he and Sadik-Khan decided that reserved spaces are “inappropriate” and as a result, “we will just remove those four signs.”
He pointed out that the Council members have placards (they’ve so far kept theirs, although others have lost them in the city’s ongoing culling effort) and can continue parking in front of their offices – if the spaces there aren’t occupied.
“We shouldn’t treat some people different,” Bloomberg said.”
The mayor also repeated his warning that the administration intends to reduce “by a meaningful percentage” the number of parking placards teachers enjoy when their contract comes up – an issue that has caused considerable consternation among UFT members.
“It’s hard to argue they need it,” Bloomberg said, adding that in most cases, teachers drive to one location and stay there all day long.
its about time let them ride by train or bus they should not be diffrent from all other citzens let them get parking tickets like every citzen let them feel our pain
what about school faculty, when is that going away?
““We shouldn’t treat some people different,” Bloomberg said.” Does Sadik-Khan have a permit?
Most school faculty can park on the street like everyone else or ride mass transit. Some who works in a higher crime area should have a small space in the school yard.
What about all those state senators and their staff and city council and their staff and police ‘civilian’ employess whose cars jam lower manhattan – and what about all the police and firemen ?
FIRST let’s take away bloomberg’s parking permit’s then he can take away someone else’s.
Fireman,Teachers,Police have reserved spots why?
I go to work everyday i dont have a reserved spot
The city council sets artificially high monetary fines for tickets not based on deterance (a much lower fine would deter just the same)but on generating revenue so that they could maximize their financial allotments. this excess is ‘blood money’ all this while enjoying reserved spots and privileged parking for themselves. All city council members should give up their parking abuses.
The only reason I think teachers might be entitled to permits is that they cant exactly leave in middle of class to move the car across the street for alternate side parking while most other people can leave their office for a few minutes to do so.
Bloomberg should take himself out of the City. Talk about a spoiled brat!
