Jerusalem, Israel – The Jerusalem municipality’s plan to build a haredi kindergarten in the predominantly secular neighborhood of Kiryat Hayovel is disturbing secular residents concerned that the their quality of life will be harmed, and that their community will join others in the city that have turned ultra-Orthodox. City tractors had already started to brake ground for the placement of two caravans for the kindergarten.

At issue is the latest in a series of disputes over haredi moves in the once-secular neighborhood.
Pollack said haredi children in Kiryat Yovel needed a kindergarten, and that he preferred putting the caravans in the lot to taking an empty building away from the state secular school system.
The construction, which prompted a small demonstration, has been temporarily suspended at the orders of City Attorney Yossi Havilio, after it emerged that the city did not have all the requisite permits.
“The starting point in our relations with the haredim has to be that the lifestyle of neither side is hurt,” said neighborhood resident Esti Kirmaier, that plans to run in the municipal election on November 11.
“I am concerned by the trend of haredization of Jerusalem neighborhoods in general, our neighborhood in particular,” she said, adding that the struggle between secular and religious Jews in the city was assuming war-like proportions.
Jerusalem Municipal spokesman Gidi Schmerling said the placement of the two caravans was solely based on need.
“The caravans are intended for pupils who are neighborhood residents, and the municipality is required to place them [there] in light of the fact that no permanent solution has been found up until now that will afford them a proper study place like the rest of the city’s pupils,” he said in a statement.
The dispute follows a neighborhood struggle to prevent the city from allocating land intended for a state school to be used for a haredi yeshiva, and comes on the heels of opposition to the city hall-backed construction of an eruv in the neighborhood.
Could you imagine if somebody protested an Arab kindergarten? JProst, YNut, and Am-Haaretz would all chalash from the racism.
They should be more worried about their quality of death than their quality of life.
Why not take 3 steps back and analyze what is irking the kiryat hayovel residents? Will the lives of the people living there be changed to the worse? Is it similiar to Ramat Eshkol and the garbage problem that never existed 3-5 yrs ago, when the neighborhood was less Charedei? Are we able to honestly view the differences that change an area and how does it effect others? Or is it TOO BAD ON YOU attitude!!!!
OHEV YISROEL:
What if Arabs started moving into the neighborhood instead of Dussim? How loudly do you think these fryers would complain? Or would they be afraid?
Similar events happened in Haifa and elsewhere—hareidim moving into secular areas and, within 2-3 years, harrassing the previous residents. Despite what other people have been posting, this has happened FAR MORE times w/hareidim than w/Arabs.
It’s their own way of antisemitism – sorry, anti charedism.. its nothing about garbage or harassment, its the hatred to charedim period.
I live in a chareidei area, don’t have a TV, don’t go mixed-swimming, etc. and I totally sympathize with these secular people protesting. Little by little, the chareidim will think and act like they own the place and woe to anyone who stands in their way in any way.
I spend some time in Israel and in my opinion most of the religious community do not know how do deal with the not wet religious jews on one hand some try to be friendly with them for the sake of being friendly and on the other hand some try to do whatever they can to antaginize them the religious Jew should just mind their own busniess they would not have these problems they should deal with the irreligious like we deal with the non jews in chutz laretz
and the satmar rebbe in vayoel moshe writes there is no halachik obligation to stop irreligious jews from transgressing the laws of the torah.

With families that average only one and a half children and a dog. Statistically the future of these non frum people can’t be too promising. It’s just a matter of time.
It is hard for people who are “different” to live together. In NYC we live with people that are different aned we learn to get along as best as possible. If both sides respect each others lifestyles then perhaps there can be some ahavas yisroel instead of strife. If we cant learn to love every jew regardless of their religous status then we are no better than goyim.
u r wrong a jew must hate a secular jew you still should respect them as a human being
A Yidele – I don’t know where in the world you got that from. A Yid is supposed to LOVE even a secular Jew. You may hate that persons “maasim” & not learn from him but to hate him? Chas V’Shulim!!!
Why don’t those anti-chareidim move to Africa as their original Zionist wanted their state to be, and allow the “real Jews” to live in the Holy Land?
Why should the Holy Land be polluted by people who lead Non-Holy lives?
What a double standard!
What right do they have to deny their fellow citizens, who lives in their neighborhood, the basic services they need to live a normal life?
This is hate, pure and simple–Jewish anti-Semitism.
who the heck do they think they are??????? so every time you see a secular jew walking the streets of mea sharim or malchei yisroel or bnei brak we shouldnt let them in because they dont belong here but its not so oy gevald rabboissai moshiach has to come but i dont know how if there is still sinas chinum we just finished with tisha bav do we need c”v another reminder there is enough tzurus we dont need to create anymore
It is amazing.
When frum people in Lakewood try and ‘forcefuly discourage’ goyim or lehavdil ‘secular’ jews from moving in to their neighborhoods as reported by VIN last week), then they are pefectly justified as they don’t want their children to be exposed to outside influences etc.
BUT if the ‘secular’ jews in a neighborhood in Israel don’t want their lives turned upside down by chareidim (which will inevitably happen as chareidim think they have the right to impose their point of view and standards upon anyone and everyone) then they have are self hating jews and anti semites!!!
Its not charedim they fear – it is the violent charedi who stone women destroy property harrass people – that’s what they fear. And the very small minority of violent ones don’t wear a sing saying ‘here I am’.
Unfortunately some very nice Charemim are disgusting slobs who think its above them to take garbage to the dumpster or throw garbage in their can – who just drop it off in the street for the ‘chiloni’ or ‘aravi’ to pick up – which have made some formerly nice neighborhoods looking horrible.

The above anon said it all. I am frum and I have a frum daughter. G-D forbid some perverted maniac would get some idea of protecting the world from my daughter. Remember, some of these guys are maniacs getting away with criminal acts in the guise of frumkeit.
