From Monday, such schools will be allowed to include faith as a selection criterion for teaching and non-teaching posts, reserving more places for people from the same religious background.

In some schools this will expand to include the headteacher while in others this would apply to non-teaching jobs, such as classroom assistants and cooks.

The new rules coincide with the launch of Accord, a coalition of Hindu, Christian and Humanist organisations, which claims that they will further restrict the employment rights of staff in state-funded faith schools and that discrimination of this kind is illegal in other state schools.

Prominent Jewish figures are angry that two rabbis from progressive movements, David Goldberg, emeritus rabbi of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St John’s Wood, and rabbi Jonathan Romain, of Maidenhead Synagogue, are involved with Accord.

Philanthropist Benjamin Perl, who has founded and provided funding for at least 20 of the 39 Jewish state schools in England and Wales said their involvement was disgraceful.

These 2 “rabbis” aren’t worthy of the title. It is important that the staff reflects the values of the school, therefore a Reform “Rabbi” has no place in, say, Yesodey Hatorah (Like that would ever happen, but you see my point!) even if he was an expert teacher of Math.

Some schools would rather have Goyim as secular teachers than some “Jews”…just look at the JFS controversy recently with the English teacher whose child was rejected because the kid isn’t Halachically Jewish. Non-Jewish teachers usually know what is acceptable & not. They are also usually respectful to the school & its values. After all, they want the job, don’t they? But the same cannot be said of Reconstructionists , Reform etc. They want to bring our children into their ways & have no problem subtly sliding things in as they talk. I’ve seen it!

“Ra-banim” would more correct than “rabbis”.
