Township police arrested two men in connection with the theft of eight memorial plaques from an Atlantic City synagogue.

The plaques, each worth $1,200, were donated in memory of some of the Community Synagogue’s deceased members.

Police said the plaques were recovered after they were sold to a local scrap yard.

An investigation led to the arrest of Mariano Rivera, 40, and Thomas Salmon, 49, both of Egg Harbor Township. Both men are charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy. Police said more charges may be filed pending a further investigation.

Egg Harbor Township police assisted with the investigation.
