Quinn held a news conference today, saying she had given the issue careful deliberation.
She said voters deserved the choice of whether to keep the current leadership for longer than two terms.
Bloomberg, whose last day in office is Dec. 31, 2009, wants to modify the law and add the option for a third term. A bill has been introduced in the City Council.
Opponents say any change to the term-limit law has to come through the voters.
treason!!!!!!!!!
ok. it’s fine! let him run again for g-d sakes. i doubt he’ll win anyway.
let him run like this he can lose if he donot run he canot lose
I can’t believe they are going to get away with this! I actually just heard one of these fools say that they are being more democratic because they are giving the voters more options! The problem here is that these stupid politicians think they are smarter then us. I hope there are enough smart council people like Simcha Felder who will stand up for what is right even if it will pass anyway. Bloomberg will be mayor of NY for 5 more years, but some council people can show the people that our democracy isn’t dead.
When Giuliani tried to hold onto power for a little longer after 9/11, it was Bloomberg who cried foul. Now that he’s in the position of power, he just won’t let go.
