New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection spokesman Larry Hajna said Tuesday no property has been damaged and no homes are in the fire’s path.
Officials are warning residents in surrounding communities that they may smell smoke.
Some residents in Brooklyn and Queens may smell smoke as well.
The fire broke out on Monday in Woodland Township, Burlington County, and later spread in Ocean County.
Containment lines are expected to hold the fire at 1,000 acres.
Hajna says the containment effort included about a dozen wildfire trucks and four bulldozers. Local fire crews also assisted.
Officials say dry conditions and a breeze made controlling the fire challenging.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
