Tisch made the announcement Monday at the start of the policy-making board’s monthly meeting in Albany.

Tisch, who has been chancellor since 2009, was first appointed to the board in 1996. The former first-grade teacher was re-elected to five-year terms in 2001, 2006 and 2011. Her current term ends in March.

She’s been at the helm through a series of sometimes rocky reforms, including the state’s shift to the Common Core learning standards adopted with the goal of better preparing students for college.

While announcing her decision not to seek another term, Tisch urged fellow board members to continue to pursue higher standards

Is she was indeed in any way responsible for the common core fiasco, then good riddance!

Too close to William Rapfogel and Shelly Silver. We know where they are now and will soon be going.

Mrs Tisch will indeed be missed as her innovative ideas was at least a positive step to change the ” old- guard” of the Board of Regents.

This Board did not help the children reach higher levels/standards of education for decades, and with the quality of learning and testing falling behind other countries,a change was needed.

Maybe common core is not the complete answer/solution for all schools and all children, but something needs to be done beginning with creating a positive environment at home for school studies, and then constructive and inspiring learning in the classroom.

Otherwise we will continue to fail in educating our children properly and fall even further behind other countries
