John Kenneth Leighnor Jr., 49, is facing a maximum of 26 years in prison when he’s sentenced by U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer on Feb. 3.

Trim, athletic-looking and wearing a dark-striped jail uniform and ankle shackles, Leighnor quietly responded “guilty” to one count of mail fraud and three counts of aggravated identity theft at a hearing this morning.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, he had been scheduled to be released from prison in January after serving time for prior, unrelated convictions. He was being held at the Federal Correctional Institute in Petersburg.

He conducted the complex scheme from April 2005 through this June. Authorities said that no money was actually stolen.
