New York City officials say hundreds of officers and traffic enforcement agents will be part of the crackdown on dangerous driving through Nov. 22.

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office said Wednesday that the police would commit more than 12,000 extra enforcement hours a day to traffic safety.

De Blasio is trying to reduce the number of pedestrians killed by vehicles with his Visio Zero plan.

But more than a dozen New Yorkers have been killed or injured by cars, buses and trucks in the last two weeks.

Dear Stupid – even if they crossed in the middle of the street the law does not absolve the operator of a motor vehicle from exercising appropriate caution. Even if you have a Lexus, you don’t own the road. However, the concept of getting drivers to slow down from 30 to 25 goes against the grain of many of are always in a rush.

The way to fix the problem is to redo the traffic lights so that during the period when pedestrians are in the crosswalks there is no traffic moving in ANY direction. Keep the people and the cars entirely separate. Most pedestrians are hit while the car is turning.

its all about money for this de bozo as he thinks only “rich” people drive so therefore he put all these revenue generation machines (speed cameras) so he can fund all his Marxist initiatives, I guesss the askanim dont have this issue as they have LLC they pay their “speeding” tickets.

Athe latest craze I see over and over is pedestrians staring straight down at their phones while crossing bust streets! This has become a machala! Also frum men and women driving while holding phones to their ears! I hope they start a serious summons campaign against these selfish people who put other people at risk so they can break the law and talk on a hand held phone while driving !!
