Brooklyn, NY – New York City has approved a proposal for a 1,000-foot skyscraper in Brooklyn.

The tower would be nearly twice as tall as any other building in the borough.
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the proposal for the 73-story apartment tower on Tuesday.
The design by SHoP Architects calls for 500 units and a tapered and hexagonal form clad in bronze and black metal fins.
The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1SajcXP ) says the tower will be built on a portion of the neighboring Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn on DeKalb Ave., a city landmark. That allows the project about 300,000-square-feet of air rights.
Because the 1908 bank is a landmark developers needed city approval to alter the bank, which will house new shops.
City records show the development for approval was granted to Michael Stern JDS Development and the Chetrit Group.
How many affordable housing units will this project have?
How nice another giant apt. house in a place where the transportation system is over 100 years old and overcrowded now.

Why should only Manhattan have sky scrapers. This will bring more jobs to the area, more people to pay taxes, more investment, more retail and residential units. The building itself looks great, combining new metal clad tower with low limestone old bank building.

It’s all affordable, otherwise it won’t get sold.
The subway system is on the verge of collapse ,there isn’t enough space for the passengers now. How do the planners expect to move people about? There isn’t room for cars on the streets now ,it’s almost gridlocked .,thinking nothing about street traffic the planning commision are just planning for their retirement packages.
