Family members say 24 people were sleeping in the New Rochelle home when the alarm sounded around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Four generations of extended family had gone to sleep about three hours prior to the alarm that sent firefighters and EMTs to the home.

Officials say the family had elevated levels of carbon monoxide and at least 14 were hospitalized.

Family members say all of the victims have been released from the hospital and the source of the carbon monoxide release was found to be an oven.

B’H they had working carbon monoxide detectors. I can’t even begin to think of the horific tragedy that could have been.

The owner of this house is the guy who should be giving lectures on Emunah.

Once again, an oven almost killing a family. Either keep shabbos and dump all the loop holes, or break shabbos and be safe. Sorry, this nonsense of shabbos modes and blechs and ever loop hole under the sun is just out of control. you are not fooling anyone, certainly not your creator.

Important to keep a window or two open a half inch or so whenever people are sleeping with an oven going.

These are not loopholes but normative Halacha. Contrary to what you think, our Creator does not want us to eat cold food on Shabbos, Au contraire.

I agree with #3; according to Halacha, it is forbidden to do anything to endanger one’s life and health. Therefore, some of these blechs and ovens with special modes, should not be used. Enough deaths and and injuries have resulted from some of those devices. There are some extenuating circumstances, which allow one to break Shabbos. For example, in some areas, some authorities have ruled that it is even allowed to carry some money on Shabbos to give to a robber, if that act will help to prevent injury and save a life.
