At a news conference Schumer said all of the eleven candidates would make an excellent senator but he won’t be backing anyone until Governor David Paterson makes his choice.

If Clinton is confirmed as Obama’s Secretary of State, Governor Paterson will appoint someone to fill the seat for two years. The chosen candidate would have to run for election in 2010 and in 2012.

Some of the names in the mix are Caroline Kennedy, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

Schumer is no doubt sorry that HE cannot be apointed to Hillary’s seat and thus hold both seats at once — it would surely double his face time on television, but is constitutionally impossible.

Hopefully, Governor Paterson will condict his search for a Senate replacement for Hillary with somewhat more dignity and honesty than his fellow Democrat governor, Rod “Highest Bidder is the Winner” Blagojevich of Illinois.
