Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says Friday’s incident occurred near a shrine holy to both Jews and Muslims in Hebron, a city that has been a flashpoint for violence over the past nine months.
Since September, Palestinians have carried out dozens of stabbings, shootings and attacks using cars that killed 33 Israelis and two American tourists.
Some 200 Palestinians died in that time, most identified as attackers by Israel.
On Thursday a Palestinian infiltrated an Israeli settlement near Hebron and stabbed a 13-year-old girl to death as she slept in her bedroom. Later a Palestinian stabbed two people in the Israeli city of Netanya.
