The Former Nazi officer got the title “Righteous among the Nations” which only those who saved Jews and other victims of the Holocaust even if it could have cost them their own lives.
The German intelligence officer found pianist Wladislav Szpilman and saved him from certain death. But Hosenfeld was arrested by the Russians who sentenced him to 25 years of hard labour and put him in a labour camp.
Wilm Hosenfeld died in 1952 and even Wladislav Szpilman’s son’s attempts to get him out of the camp failed. Director Roman Polanski made a film about Wladislav Szpilman called “The Pianist”.
who knows how many jews he killed before the end of the war though??
was this person in the film?
This is extremely confusing. Certainly this man was not the only Nazi who had a good relationship with Jews. What about the German officers who helped the Lubavitcher Rebbe leave Warsaw in 1942?! Maybe not everything we believe about events in WW2 is true. Furthermore, how can it possibly be that the people in the photo are not wearing uniforms, are not shaven and do not look like they were going to be killed? I am getting increasingly confused……
maybe he saved him because he simply loved to listen to beautiful music, but does anyone know what he was involved with before he saved this one jewish life?
This is hashgacha pratis because I just watched this film last night for research I’m doing on the Warsaw Ghetto. Very well-made (and tzanua) film.
To quote the talmud “whoever saves one life is though he saves the whole world”

This picture could have been taken after the war. The inmates stayed there a little while longer to get back to their health before heading out to their home town. That is what my grandmother told me happened to her.

first of all.. the previous lubavitcher rebbe had already arrived in america by 1940.
second of all.. those people in the picture are women and they look pretty shaven to me. although they did had a different sysem with uniforms in the womens camp.
third of all.. will you please explain to me what you mean “they dont look like theyre going to be killed” – im having a little trouble understanding what thats supposed to mean.
