The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said that the young victim rode her bicycle out of the driveway of her family home and into the roadway on 7th Street between Forest and Madison avenues just after 12:30 in the afternoon. The girl, identified as Hadassah Krohn, was struck by a 2007 Ford F550 truck driven by a 40 year old Lakewood resident.
The 40 year old driver of the vehicle pulled over immediately and a search of his cell phone showed that the he was not using his phone at the time of the accident. Results of a blood test have not yet been made available.
According to an investigation conducted by the Lakewood Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Fatal Crime Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Sheriff’s CSI Unit, the bicycle entered the roadway directly in front of the path of the oncoming truck without warning.
Attempts by Hatzolah members to save the little girl’s life were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene, less than two blocks away from Beth Medrash Govoha.
Boruch Dayan Emes. So sad.
Yes very sad and totally unpreventable. Before hater type why wasn’t the mother watching her, let me debunk that. Even if a mother is watching a child its only takes a split second for a child to zoom into the street and boom. This is something impossible for humans to prevent
Nebech, nebech, what a horror.
Maybe unpreventable and never to blame anybody. Every parent has experienced miracles. Having stated the above, maybe it is time to space our kids being born so a Parent can handle what they have rather than be overwhelmed at all times.
It’s very sad but a 3 year old shouldn’t be riding a bike on the driveway.
How can you even consider that this was the fault of the parents? I know how, even with parents watching, tragedies occur. As a member of the chevra kedisha I have had to deal with tragedies of terrible proportions. Instead of pointing fingers and adding to the parents’ pain, try taking on a mitzvah or saying a kapital Tehillim in the child’s zechut.
May all you critics never know from such pain.
