Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier says the donation followed an appeal from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to all 27 European Union members to contribute to a fund to preserve the Nazi-built camp. The Polish government says it needs up to €100 million for restoration work at the camp.
Steinmeier said Friday Germany would contribute more in the next budgetary year and said it would encourage German businesses and private foundations to donate. Tusk’s office was not immediately able to comment.
This is a nice gesture by the Germans..
i dont think anymore money should be put into that terrible place, i was there in the summer and its disgusting how it has been made into more of a museum than a rememberance of a camp. majdanek, a camp in lublin poland has been left exactly as it was sixty years ago..
The only reason Germany is paying for repairs it that they’d like it in working order…just in case
To #4 I think it should be repaired. Remember that is the only place we have to go to for some of our families. If we do not fix it and it falls apart who will you blame? Yourself?? No !! It should be fixed !! Not only for the Jewish people, but for all humanity to REMEMBER and NEVER to forget!! Never!!
So they should!
#6 ,
you beat me to the punchline. renovate is a very bad term. You would think they would have a little common sense.
