The film, titled A Night at the Garden, was produced and directed by Academy Award winner Marshall Curry, who said that after learning about the rally last year, he was stunned to discover that the event had been filmed. Piecing together short clips of the rally from various historical archives, Curry put together a seven minute film of the event which took place on February 20th, 1939, less than a year before the invasion of Poland.

The rally was organized by the German American Bund, which is believed to have had 25,000 paid members in 1939 according to the Holocaust Encyclopedia (http://bit.ly/2xOtlr0). An estimated 22,000 people attended the “Pro-American” rally, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before extending their arms in a Nazi salute and hearing Bund leader Fritz Kuhn condemn the “Jewish controlled press” and calling for “a socially just, white, Gentile-ruled United States.”

Among the most chilling moments of the documentary are seeing a Jewish protestor who rushed the stage being viciously beaten by uniformed Bund members, while a Nazi youth on stage observing the violence can be seen dancing and rubbing his hands gleefully together.

A blog post by Curry (http://bit.ly/2xQaLyy) references a New York Time article written one day after the rally, which estimated the crowd of protesters outside the Garden at approximately 10,000 people. A record1,700 police officers were deployed to provide security both inside and outside the Garden, prompting Police Commissioner Lewis Valentine to quip “we have enough police here to stop a revolution.”

A letter written by the American Jewish Committee to the management of Madison Square Garden before the event supported the Bund’s right to rally despite espousing views that it classified as “anti-American” and “anti-Democratic.”

“Because we believe that the basic free rights of free speech and free assembly must never be tampered with in the United States, we are opposed to any action to prevent the Bund from airing its views,” said the letter signed by Edward S. Greenbaum, chairman of the American Jewish Committee’s survey committee.

Curry said that the Charlottesville riots this past summer imbued him with a sense of urgency and the need to remind the world that even decades ago there were many in America who supported white supremacists and anti-Semitism.

“Events like this should remind us not to be complacent,” noted Marshall. “That the things we care about have to be nurtured and defended regularly, because even seemingly good people have the potential to do hideous things.”

I condemn the violence by both the Jewish protester and by those attending the rally, which included some very fine people.

Justifying terror attacks in Israel by labeling it as part of the occupation or just plan out lying like when the failing NYT writes “10 people killed in terror attack in jeruslaim” , when two of those killed were the terrorists or when the failing NYT writes “10 people dead in new Israeli Palestinian violence” , when five were terrorists making bombs… ,when the liberals justfiy the murder of our jewish brothers they are today’s modern nazis sympathizers.

First of all, Washington was a friend to & of the Jews.

Second, I won’t use bad language so I will be sarcastic, what wonderfully, sweet liberals we had back then, not to different from now. In fact, we have those who like the betrayer, moron Greenbaum, who love the arabs, standswith BDS & more
