Trump’s tweet Sunday comes after the father of player LiAngelo Ball minimized Trump’s involvement in winning the players’ release during an interview Saturday with ESPN. Trump has said he raised the players’ detention with Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng) during the leaders’ recent meeting in Beijing.

The players returned to the U.S. last week. They have been indefinitely suspended from the team.

Says Trump: “Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!

Shop lifting is no big deal is why your son was picked up. If President Trump did not get involved and he spend 3 – 5 years in jail Would it have been a big deal. The kid is a chip of the old block

Actually, the three shoplifters should not be blamed for the nasty attitude of the Fathe,r of one of them. I agree that Trump should have held his tongue, on Twitter. Incidentally, Trump is 71.5, and not 70.

    pathetic!
instead of taking the high road by saying that I did the right thing, even if a father disses him, our moronic, immature president takes the low road and talks like a 6 year old.
woe onto us for the next 3 years !

The issue here is not a question of the legality of shoplifting. Nor is it the issue of what the father says or what happened under other presidents. The question here is should the President of the United States even be commenting on these things. Should the President have made his first comment? Should he have even responded to the father’s comment? His actions here have only added to the divisiveness in the country. One only look at comment #14 to see what he was trying to do – get his base going and detract attention from anything else that is not going his way. See comment 11. Instead of focusing on the question at hand, his base starts talking about past presidents. This is, of course, giving him the benefit of the doubt that his responses are based on a thought out plan of action rather than an infantile emotional response.

It’s about time that the colleges stop bringing into the schools people who hardly qualify for a college education. They have absolutely no interest in getting an education or learning the discipline that comes with it.The sports program belongs to students who excel in scholastic pursuits .That these schools take in so called students on special programs geared to the young boys whose only achievement is being able to get a ball into the basket ,or muscular bullies who are able to overcome their opponents is a perversion of the college programs.
