The alleged attacker, Alen Califano, 41, of Yonkers, New York, was allowed in the New Jewish Home in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon after telling the security guard he needed to use the bathroom.
But Califano entered the room of a resident, where he lit a marijuana cigarette and trashed the room, according to the New York Post. He then entered the room of an 84-year-old Jewish man and demanded his money before hitting him with a fire extinguisher. He also shouted, “I’m going to kill you, you mother f***ing Jew,” according to the report.
Califano was charged with robbery, burglary, a hate crime, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana, police told WNBC TV.
The nursing home fired the security guard, who was recently hired.
The victim reportedly spent Sunday, his birthday, with his family.
The incompetent staff at the nursing home, may think that they can just get off the legal hook by firing the equally useless “security” guard. However, the family of the poor man who was beaten, will have a nice lawsuit against that nursing home, for failing to provide for his protection. I remember in Florida and in Brooklyn how many times I was harassed by security (i.e. only two to a room, you must sign in and sign out, present id, etc.), to see a close relative. Here was a case, where the individual was not watched, after he left the rest room. A shanda!
I worked 37 years in a nursing home. It is almost unbelievable to hear such a story. This rent a uniform had to be the stupidest, most incompetent person ever. If he was provided by a vendor, they will be sued as well.
How is the victim? Apart from being traumatized, that is.
To #3- How would you feel after being beaten by that talena lunatic?
The article is phrased as though there is only one resident?
