United Nations – UN Assembly Votes To Declare US Recognition Of Jerusalem As Israel’s Capital ‘Null And Void’

The General Assembly is shown prior to a vote, Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at United Nations headquarters. President Donald Trump's threat to cut off U.S. funding to countries that oppose his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital has raised the stakes in Thursday's U.N. vote and sparked criticism of his tactics, with one Muslim group calling it bullying or blackmail. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan)United Nations – More than 100 countries defied President Donald Trump on Thursday and voted to declare United States declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “null and void.”

Trump had threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that voted in favor. A total of 128 countries backed the resolution, nine voted against and 35 abstained.

Trump’s threat appeared to have some impact, with more countries abstaining and rejecting the resolution than usually associated with Palestinian-related resolutions.

Nevertheless, Washington found itself isolated on the world stage as many of its Western and Arab allies voted for the measure.

A spokesman for Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the vote.

“The vote is a victory for Palestine,” said Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah. “We will continue our efforts in the United Nations and at all international forums to put an end to this occupation and to establish our Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital.”

Ahead of the vote, the United States said it was “singled out for attack” at the United Nations over Jerusalem, which holds Muslim, Jewish and Christian holy sites.

“The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation,” U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, told the 193-member General Assembly.

“We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the world’s largest contribution to the United Nations, and so many countries come calling on us, as they so often do, to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit,” she said.

Earlier this month, Trump reversed decades of U.S. policy by announcing the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and would move its embassy there.

The status of Jerusalem is one of the thorniest obstacles to a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians, who were furious over Trump’s move. The international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the full city.

The vote was called at the request of Arab and Muslim countries. The United States, backing its ally Israel, vetoed the resolution on Monday in the 15-member U.N. Security Council.

The remaining 14 Security Council members voted in favor of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which did not specifically mention the United States or Trump but which expressed “deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem.”

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told the United States it could not buy Turkey’s support in Thursday’s vote.

“Mr. Trump, you cannot buy Turkey’s democratic will with your dollars,” Erdogan said in a speech in Ankara.

“I hope and expect the United States won’t get the result it expects from there (the United Nations) and the world will give a very good lesson to the United States,” Erdogan said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the United Nations as a “house of lies” ahead of the vote.

“The State of Israel totally rejects this vote, even before (the resolution’s) approval,” Netanyahu said in a speech in the port city of Ashdod.

the United States should not support any countries that go against them.

Remember what President Bush said “You’re either with us or against us”.

No reason to give those countries against us money. Let them starve……………..

The over simplicity and ignorance shown by some comments is sobering. The world of nations is not an American forum, where we have control over all members and over other key players…it is not a Trump corporation.

With much publicity and fanfare Trump took us out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (the TPP), one of the several international agreements he touted as “the worst deal ever.” So, the Chinese have taken our place, and the Pacific Rim nations have gotten together in a mutual trade agreement that benefits them at our expense, and elevates the importance and the clout of China.

What do you think will happen if Trump actually starts cutting aid to sovereign nations who have the temerity not to cast their vote as American vassals, on whatever is the issue? China, and even perhaps to a lesser extent India or Brazil, will step into the breach. And who will be the loser? The United States.

International aid and assistance has always been an international competitive sport based on real politick…that’s not me talking…that’s International Relations 101.

The check book always talks louder then words, and why are we paying countries that hate us to build devises against us??? Isn’t it self defeating??

The vote on Dec 1 disavowing the Jewish connection to Jerusalem was 151 in favour, compared to the 128 in today’s vote (and it was 6 against compared to today’s 9 against).

as Abba Eban once said “If Algeria introduced a resolution declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by a vote of 164 to 13 with 26 abstentions”

Let us all get together and put our hands in our pockets and help. We can stop buying any products made in countries made in any countries who vote against Israel! Ladies buy either American or Israeli, no French or British take a good look at the list and follow it well. It would bode well for us to buy Israeli candy for Purim! It would help their economy!! If you must buy American!! It is only a suggestion!

The Israeli ambassador was exactly right when he called all the hateful UN member states “puppets,”but not only for the reason he stated. The true reason is, because the Torah foretold this happening pre-Moshiach, where all the countries will be fighting about Jerusalem. Isn’t it amazing and inexplicable that the world is busy night and day with tiny Israel, out of all the countries in the world? Why the hatred, why the jealousy? Because deep down, they all know Israel is G-d’s chosen nation and the hatred and jealousy are instinctual, even though many of them don’t understand their own hatred and anti semitism on the deeper level. I live it, it’s living proof Moshiach is on the way! Baruch HaShem!

To #4 - You neglected to mention those countries, which didn’t vote for the resolution (although they didn’t vote for it), but merely abstained; they were Australia, Mexico, Argentina, Benin, Canada, Poland, Croatia, South Sudan, Uganda, Romania, Rwanda, Malawi, Lesotho, Latvia, Hungary, Colombia, Jamaica, Fiji, and the Czech Republic.

Ah it’s a true pleasure seeing the liberals here imploding at how well the great president is doing! They couldn’t acknowledge his huge accomplishments if their sad lives depended on it! His courage, bravery, and brilliance make for the best president we’ve seen ever, certainly in many decades! So sad that these liberals would rather see him fail to satisfy their own sick resentment at his being a successful republican president, than act like normal, upstanding, patriotic American citizens. Whoever said liberalism is a disease was so right!
