The company says it has filed a petition with the federal government seeking permission to put the vehicles on the road sometime next year with no human backup drivers.

GM’s Cruise Automation unit has announced plans to carry passengers in self-driving cars that won’t have a backup driver in 2019. The location of the service has not been revealed.

I personally don’t like the idea of a self driving car. It puts you at the car’s mercy. What if it only went at the speed limit and you want to go faster?

As every one knows, how many times can you have a problem with a computer in your own home, but can correct it, but cars without steering wheels, self driving cars going at speeds that are life threatening, and that all you have to do is program it, it is nice, but remember about you home computer and you know how perfect their programs are, and are these hackable??

These are first-generation vehicles but they show the way. I am eager to own a self-driving car when the prices come down and the technology is more mature.
