Australia wants 54-year-old Malka Leifer extradited. She is wanted there for sexually abusing children while she was a teacher at a local school.
Israel launched an undercover investigation at the request of Interpol, and police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of obstructing court proceedings by attempting to hide evidence.
An Israeli court had previously stopped extradition proceedings against Leifer after determining she was not fit to stand trial. But police say they have indications she was pretending to be suffering from a mental illness to avoid extradition and a new extradition order would be handed down.
“Based on new evidence that is being found, both by the Israeli police as well as social services, we believe that she can stand trial and all of the documents that she had in fact presented over the last few years were fake documents and the psychological analysis that were given were incorrect and inaccurate, ” Rosenfeld said.
now hashomer, lakewood guy etc etc know why mosdos hatorah dont allow women teachers for boys no matter how young or vise versa
What about the psychiatrists & other “professionals” who clearly fabricated this defense. Leifer is cunning, manipulative & evil, but she couldn’t have pulled off this farce without their cooperation. They all should lose their license & be charged with whatever crime is appropriate… perverting the course of justice or whatever it’s called in Israel.
As for her lawyer…I hope he sleeps well at night, knowing he played a huge part too in her fooling the authorities. Notwithstanding the fact that everyone is entitled to representation, how can he look this monster in the face & try to get the extradition dropped? I guess the millions of shekels raised by her supporters helped.
Just to clarify, she was abusing girls not boys.
Also, I don’t believe she is originally an Australian.
Reply to 1. So men never molest boys? Gotta remember that one?
I hope the lesson learned is the importance of all schools to teach children about sexual abuse, and to have complaints brought to the police not to religious authorities
Why is Israel protecting her?
I think the point of what is going on here is not to trust some one because of their religious affiliation or dress.
There are criminals and perverts among us in the charadi community; maybe not as many as in the secular community, but do not think that because a person is frum, he/she can not be a criminal or pervert.
There was a case that the school helped a school employee fly away because an abuse scandle was being discovered. Anyone remembers which school? I think it was a woman.
