The van, a 2008 Ford, was traveling north on Clifton Avenue when a 1995 Honda Accord failed to stop at the 8th Street intersection stop sign, Redington said. The two vehicles collided and the van ran over a fire hydrant causing a water main break and then struck a tree, Redington said.
A pedestrian walking on the sidewalk was struck by ladders that fell from the top of the work van. The pedestrian, Moshe Kreiser, 50, of Lakewood, was injured and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he remained today in stable condition, officials said.
The driver of the Honda Accord that struck the van was Moises Hernandez Contreras, 21, of Lakewood, who fled on foot from the accident scene, Redington said.
Hernandez Contreras had panicked and ran because he was afraid, he told police after turning himself in at police headquarters two hours after the accident, Redington said.
The driver of the van was Edward Brownlee, 29, of Egg Harbor Township. He was not injured, Redington said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Hernandez Contreras was arrested and charged criminally with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injuries and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. He received motor vehicle summonses for being an unlicensed driver, talking on the cell phone while driving and failing to obey a traffic sign.
Hernandez Contreras’ criminal charges had a bail of $10,000 and he was placed in the Ocean County Jail. He also has a no-bail detainer from the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
The Honda was registered to Hernandez Contreras in Massachusetts and was properly insured, Redington said.
how could Mass insure and register a car to an unlicensed driver?!?!
In liberal MA, a terrorist can register a car too.
maybe he should be sent back to where he came from, anybody think of that?
anybody know his full name and mothers name? so we can daven 4 him
1, The roads are full of unlicensed or uninsured or underinsured people. Be prepared by having uninsured insurance added to your policy!
2, Most handymen are not perfect securing their ladders, I have seen ladders fall off before.
Please everybody wish a Refuah Shelemah.
Not to make light of the situation. But Lakewood is so Yeshivish (blay”h) that even an Hispanic immigrant is named Moishe!!! A Refuah Sh’leima to the injured person!!!
B”H the pedestrian M.K. is home and ok though bruised
There are a lot of Hispanics with Biblical names, probably from religious families, and maybe even descended from marranos.
