Demonstrators brought rush hour traffic to a standstill on Wednesday evening, singing and chanting: “We will die and not be drafted.”

Israel has compulsory military service for most Jewish men. But politically powerful ultra-Orthodox parties have secured exemptions for their followers, and attempts to legislate a new draft law have repeatedly faltered.

The exemptions have bred resentment among members of Israel’s secular majority.

Police and protesters wrangled in the streets and police said 24 protesters were arrested.

A female pedestrian screamed at the crowds of protesters, calling their disturbance “intolerable.”

Interesting that the bus happens to be going to Air Force street. Also, probably not the best way of transliterating חיל into English.

Look at these frum guys have the time to riot and cause disruption and destruction. If they realy cared that much, they would be sitting and learning and Davening. Maybe they need some extra curricular activities such as exercise, so this is how they get it.

Don’t worry: כל תורה שאין עמה מלאכה, סופה בטלה. במהרה בימינו, אמן
In mean time, I would like to see the cops shoot (rubber bullets) at the part of their body which will prevent reproduction…

if you don’t draft Arabs why draft Jews? who are EQUAL citizens. is the so called Jewish state discriminating against Jews by making them waste 3 years of their life in the IDF where if they kill an Arab they think has a bomb they will end up in jail (Azaria) because of the kangaroo courts run by atheists?

The same fools on this site, who are badmouthing the Chareidim, would never consent to their own children,. serving in the armed forces of the USA. Therefore, how dare them criticize the Ultra-Orthodox protesters in EY?

How many of these students really learn all day?and for how many years will they stand in the shadow of a yeshiva? The truth be told the army doesn’t need them or want them but those who do go to the army see these students as shirkers of their responsibilities ,who sit at home in comfort. Most of them would fail the exam for the army when called. If they were real students of torah they wouldn’t go away from the beis medrash to demonstrate. and cause injury to the population.

I am an old man and have difficulty walking too much. I got stuck by their terrible demonstrations and came very late to a doctor’s appointment.

I think the peleg rabbis are very irresponsible and should be arrested and put in jail. They are the idiots who believe in punishing an innocent public to get their stupid demands heard.

    Pheh! peleg rabbies are rubble!

To #10 - It makes no difference, regarding the reason, as the end result is the same. If you don’t want your children serving in the armed forces of the USA, then you and your meshpucha have no right criticizing the Hareidim, who don’t wish to serve in the IDF; incidentally, not all of them were acting in a less than mench like manner. Case closed, no appeals.
