Police combed through sand and thick brush during their search for Det. Joseph Calabrese who was last seen around 2 a.m. Thursday at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, where his wife was after having a minor procedure done.
“He didn’t report to work. He had not shown up. Nobody was able to get ahold of him,” a high-ranking police source told the NY Post.
His black Cadillac was found near the Belt Parkway in Plumb Beach, a recreation area south of Gerritsen Beach off the Belt Parkway.
His car sat where it was found, surrounded by cones and caution tape with all its doors open, as well as its trunk.
Calabrese, 60, is described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall and bald. He joined the NYPD in 1982.
