“Rudy’s the best candidate we have, and we need to get him into this race,” Eaton said in a press release. “After just three years of Spitzer and Paterson, even diehard Democrats would vote for Rudy Giuliani for Governor.”

“Rudy’s popularity runs from Brooklyn to Buffalo, and from Suffolk to St. Lawrence,” the chairman continued. “He’s got the experience, the leadership, and he’s the one guy who can get the job done.”

“Compared to New York City, turning Albany around would be a breeze.”

Eaton, a longtime Giuliani ally who was also the first of the city’s five GOP chairman to heed the ex-mayor’s call and grant Mayor Bloomberg permission to run for a third time on the party’s ballot line, said the draft effort will eventually include a Web site and events around the city and state.

Eaton announced the effort at the Brooklyn GOP’s Annual Lincoln Dinner at which Bloomberg was named “man of the year.” The draft movement has been “overwhelmingly supported” by the party’s executive committee, Eaton said.

Public opinion polls have shown Giuliani easily defeating Gov. David Paterson in a head-to-head match-up, but trailing AG Andrew Cuomo – although the gap between them is closing.

Giuliani has been coy about his political plans, saying it’s too early to talk about 2010 but also stepping up his appearances at New York GOP events as well as his public criticism of Paterson’s budget and policies (particularly gay marriage).

Many Republicans – from Newt Gingrich to state GOP Chairman Joe Mondello – have called for Giuliani to get into the race. Giuliani has said he won’t make a decision until after he helps Bloomberg get re-elected in November.

Meanwhile, former Rep. Rick Lazio isn’t waiting for Giuliani to make up his mind this time. He has already set up a campaign committee. Other potential candidates include Erie County GOP Chairman Chris Collins and Ed Cox.

This guy Eaton doesn’t know the die-hard Democrats the way he thinks he does. No one wanted Giuliani when he ran for President, no one wants him now. Upstate was never a fan, not Democrats, not Republicans. Stay home Rudy, keep making your millions by giving speeches, be happy some people are willing to pay you, your time in NY is done.

2, 3, When will be the day you guys will realize that NYS is going under?!
I remember those days when Dunckupf was mayor how everyone said that NYC is over, then Guiliani won the elections and everyone was skeptical (You know a dictator, an anti-semite (Remember?!), has a temper), well turn around and look at the once most dangerous large city in the states, the hovering deficit. Think about the one time quality of life that has been forgotten, NYC became a great city, you can call it coincidence, but one thing I known my wife and children aren’t scared to walk alone on the street, ride alone on the subway. Guiliani was perhaps the best mayor NYC ever had, and yes a staunch conservative in things that matter to us most, we need someone in Albany that’ll shape things up there after this putz in office.
    Go Rudy Go!
(p.s. and we can definately use a good voice in support of Israel in these tough times with another Carter in national office)

Part of getting elected is running a solid campaign. Guiliani has proven that he is totally inept on that level. If he would run, he would probably only campaign in the Buffalo area. Find someone that knows how to run a campaign and put him up. It should not be hard to defeat Patterson.

It is true that his half hearted presidential run made him look weak. But he is still a refreshing change from mike Bloomberg who stole another 4 years, if he is re-elected for an illegal third term. cant see Guiliani pulling that one. And for me, I kind of miss the good old days when the streets were safe.

Oy vey. This man is the LAST person we need. He’s one of the few Republicans who could make me contemplate voting for a Democrat.
