Police say the suspect told investigators that initially a friend was driving the car, in Jerusalem’s Beit Israel neighborhood. His friend stopped and got out, at which point the suspect decided to get behind the wheel.

He allegedly lost control of the car in the Ramot neighborhood, hitting a 25-year-old woman pushing a baby stroller.

Eyewitnesses said the driver crushed the stroller, continued driving, stopped to look back, and then drove off.
The woman, who was the child’s babysitter, was not injured, but ran home in panic.

“I saw a baby lying on the road next to a crushed stroller,” said Aharon Pamp, a United Hatzalah volunteer who was first to reach the scene. “The neighbors told us he just hit the girl and kept driving.”

The child had a severe head injury, and was taken to hospital sedated and on a respirator.

Police found the driver shortly after, in the car, in the nearby neighborhood of Mea Shearim.

    **Update**
The 19-year-old driver, was remanded today for a further five days in custody.

the driver probably thought the stroller was empty as is the case im many instances in JERUSALEM. Either way a rachmanus on the childs family as well as the driver nobody should ever feel the pain of seriously injuring someone.

Frum Bochur or not, still a roizeiach? If true, driving without a lisence is like shooting without a lisence, a car is like a gun.
A minute of fun could cost lives, and sometimes the bochur’s life. He will probably spend some time in jail even if hopefuly the child gets better, everyone will be crying Pidyon Shevuyim, & the zionistic anti frum state.
I feel sorry for him, but you must take responsibility for your actions, I feel sorry for anyone who legally drives & nebach gets into an accident.
I thought the Roshei Yeshiva In Eretz Yisroel, don’t even allow lisenced Bochurim to drive even BeinHazmanim, never mind in Zman & without a lisence.
I am sure he wishes he would have listened.
What a musar Haskel how a life or a few lives can be ruined with one stupidity.
May Hakodosh Boruch Hu have rachmonus on the kid & the bochur. We all have sins which we benefited from more than this bochur who has already been punished, & awaits his day in court. i pitty him him, although it says Shoitah Asur Leracheim Olov. I have also been a shoite & want rachmonus.

while waiting at a traffic light today in a more then two ton truck, a woman actualy started crossing the street as my light turned green, i saw for a fact that the woman was looking ahead and not paying attention. but for the loud noise of my truck i wanted to yell out my window “f $% g b%#h why don’t you walk into street first and drag the baby behind you rather then push the baby into the street before you”

for the record, it does not actually say it was a bochur does it? On the other hand, whoever it was should be punished to the full extent of the law. I do not care if s/he thought the stroller was empty, IF you are found willfully and willingly disobeying a law that is clearly there for people’s safety you deserve what you get.

the driver has no excuse.. there’s no way 2 answer on driving without a license… & the owner of the car also deserves good petch 4 giving his car 2 some1 w/out license.. let’s see if his car would look like stroller looks what he would say now…
in any case this story should teach a lesson 4 all teens who think that they are different they are experts they can watch by them nothing will ever happen wrong every1 will make a mistake EXCEPT them….. youngsters grow up look   the world don’t oversmart ppl w/more experience in life then u… 1ce u make the mistake u regret it deeply & then its 2 l8 u can’t move back the clock.. this story couldve had a much more tragic end BH its not more then severe injuries.. hashem should help the child should have a speedy & full recovery .. & hashem should always give syate dishmaye!! amen!

It seems that as this irresponsible moron is Charedi he is automatically excused. If, however, he was a “Zionist” he’d have been lynched by now.

2 facts seem clear: 1. A CHILD IS VERY SERIOUSLY INJURED. 2. The driver responsible for the accident carried on driving & fled the scene.

So much for taking responsibility & being remorseful. And don’t say well, he’s young. If he’s old enough to “drive” (with or without a license) he’s old enough to step up & be accountable.

I find this very disconcerting that since the riots, yidden have been in accidents and r’l, killed. Just last week there was a terrible car accident in EY, a father and a son were killed in NYC, and a boy was found drowned in a pool in Monsey, and now this. I think Hashem is sending us message.

To #s 8 &10. You are absolutely right!! These “Shoitim” who do these terrible things, and destroy many, many lives, including their own, oftentimes, do not listen to any warnings, or pleadings before they do something terrible. They do not stop, not unlike “MONSTERS,” until they are somehow stopped by force, rather than by reasoning with them. Most of the time, they are not completely able to grasp the gravity of their misdeeds! I’m a close relative of one such a “MONSTER,” and can tell all of you, unequivocally, that these “MONSTERS” make “HELL ON EARTH FOR EVERYONE AROUND THEM!!!” Unless & until the “Tzibur” (public) will demand severe punishment and sanctions, as a way to prevent such tragedies, both from Halachah point of view, and by official authorities, and make a few “Examples,” of these “MONSTERS,” and put the fear of HASHEM in them, the public will never be SAFE around them! More to follow on this terribly dangerous element!!

We did not allow our children to get driver’s licenses when they turned 16 or even 18. We told them they had to get a job, pay for their own insurance, and their own gas before we would sign for a driver’s license. Since this society is determined to treat teenagers like children and claim they are not mature and responsible, they have no business driving cars. Operating dangerous machinery is something only an adult should be doing. But the fact that this guy was driving without a license proves he is not just immature and irresponsible – he obvious KNEW he didn’t have a license, which means he was WILLFULLY engaged in criminal activity, too. He deserves to go to jail.

To #32 and all the bleeding hearts,”Rachmonisdike” people:

You are entirely missing the larger point! While it is true that “Chareidi” drivers are not statistically worse than the rest of the population, it is a fact that in this case and in others there are Chareidim also involved. In other words, being Chareidi does not guarantee that the “Driving Violations,” will be significantly fewer. Among the main points one can take away from the above incident could be: 1) Driving w/o a valid license IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE!; 2) Much more education for the general public, and for drivers, in particular, is needed, to prepare them the very BIG responsibility of driving a vehicle; even it is only for a short joy ride!; 3) Very few people–in their right minds–set out to harm others, or themselves with vehicles. BUT! BUT! what they don’t realize is: that driving is NOT an innocent activity. A VEHICLE, WHICH WEIGHS AT LEAST 2,000 LBS.+, IS MORE DANGEROUS TO CIVILIANS, THAN A TANK IS IN WAR! In bat of an eyelash, ONE irresponsible driver can KILL as many as 10 people or more!!

Where do i begin. Well, lets first start out by saying this kid is not a rotzeach because he doesnt have a license. Now, if he doesnt know how to drive then he is a rotzeach. The license doesnt mean a thing. Normally, most people with licenses are safe drivers and know how to drive from their training, but you could have a save driver even though he never got a license. Now, im not saying that is the case here..but for number 5 to call him a rotzeach for that reason is foolish. And his comparison is even worse. A gun license doesnt mean i know how to safely handle and fire a weapon. It just means legally I have a gun.
Bottom line is the kid committed a crime…fled from a scene…and should bu punished. There should be no chareidi or zionist agenda here. The kid committed a crime and should be punished for it. The child should have a refuah shelaima because she is the victim here. You do the crime you pay the time.
One final thing..number 6..that has got to be the dumbest thing i’ve read yet on this website. He thought it was an empty stroller and thats why he drove to hit it ?!? Its ok to be dan lekaf zechus, like it was an ACCIDENT, but thats just foolish. He drove out of control with (i assume no training) and thats why he did what he did. Nebach on the child and may she make a full recovery.
