Tank you VIN. If you notice there is two points in his letter: against the violence of the police, and against the …… Rioters!

Too bad Reb Moishe doesn’t read the comments here. He would know that random acts of vandalism and violence are “kidush H”, “meisras nefesh” and “the only language the others understand”. Too bad he is insisting using his brain.

Very nice and to the point rabbi Sternbuch. especially to condemn first the heartless abuse of a mother, then condemning the aftermath of the protests (s.c. riots against the police rioters).

Sorry, not good enough. The Rav did not condemn the violence by these hooligans strongly enough. What he should have added is the following: “Any one who is guilty of violent protests will be banned from Yerushalayim.”

    1) Rav Shternbuch objects to her being held in a cell with “hardened criminals.” However, others object to her being held “in solitary confinement.” Both charges cannot be true.

    2) The police did not arrest her for being mentally ill. They arrested her for allegedly committing a criminal act. The mental illness is a possible defense, but not the reason she was arrested.

3)The only reason she was being held for a week was because she refused to submit to a psychiatric evaluation. Had she cooperated and submitted to the evaluation, then she would have been released sooner.

4)The police also have an interest in knowing whether she represents a threat to her other children. They cannot put those children at risk. The family, however, hid those other children from the police and the social workers. Therefore, the police cannot assess the risks.

5)Rav Shternbuch speaks of the brutal way she was arrested. What evidence doees he have that her arrest was done in a brutal fashion. Please note that none of her defenders has made this claim before. I wonder whether Rav Shternbuch would share with us his insights into proper tactics the police could employ when they have to arrest a member of the Toldos Ahron group. SHould they send a letter, asking them to please come to the police station? Should they go into Battei Ungarim, even though they would wind up surrounded by rock-throwing maniacs?

Does the rav (or any of the other Chareidi leaders) really matter any more. These rioters seem to be motivated by a desire to protest in the abstract and without regard to any substantive issue. In simple terms, I suspect the hard core of rioters will simply blow him off and continue their protests until some new issue comes along and then jump on that bandwagon.

Big Deal, that was a nice way of saying nothing. He could have certainly come out stronger against the animals in the street protesting.

i see that there are normal rabunim out there he’s 100% right with what he says, and its time that those bored kanoim should stop rioting and they should start to work to be able to support the famillies and come here to us and take out our money cuz they have to riot all the time

This instinct that many frum yidden seem to have of supposing that any act by another frum person is correct and he/she is being persecuted is very damaging to the existence of ultra-orthodoxy. This instinct is what is allowing child mollesters, thieves and fraud artists to continue hurting people and remain in our schools, shuls and communities and become the face of our religion to the outside world.
We need to stand up to these people, and not with meek letters when it is too late to matter.

Why is the letter in English?!? Shouldn’t it be in Hebrew? I highly doubt many if any of the rioters read English.

I am happy to see Rav Sternbach speak out against the violence that is unjustifiable! On the other hand I don’t understand his position on how this women should be treated. A country has laws and these laws need to be followed. There is a ridiculous mentality in the Hareidi community of which I count myself, that somehow we and our Rabbanim get to choose how do deal with people who break the law. This is true in t his case, in the case of people smuggling drugs unto Japan (no matter if they thought they were “only” smuggling antiques) or any other white collar crime. It may well be that certain laws need to be changed and perhaps when dealing with mental illness the law should be changed, but there is a process. That process does not include riots, breaking traffic lights, or setting garbage cans on fire. I am afraid that the real motivation behind these and other riots by “unzereh taireh yiddin” is boredom! B”H we live in communities with TV, without internet for most, where we don’t go to movies and in the case of Eretz Yisrael, kids don’t even play ball. They have nothing else to do for entertainment. I’m sorry to say, as one who also owns an apartment in Yerushalayim and whose children and grandchildren live in Yerushlayim, these riots are done by kids that are looking for excitement, including the American Yeshiva lids who participate! HaShem Yirachem!

The Rabbi doesn’t know how to write a letter in Hebrew? Or even Yiddish? Why did he write in English? Honestly, do you really believe that he reads and understands English? I don’t get it.

    Strange to me!
I thought they arrested her because she hired social workers and independent doctors, who discovered that her child was being used as an experiment, by doctors of Hadasa.
If this is indeed the case, I hope the truth comes out with all the publicity it deserves, and that no one responsible is let off from the severest possible punishment, including that Hadasa will be forced to pay a very heavy price for this, and other such crimes they commit on a daily basis, and that they get some more accountability from now on.

In reference to the letter being in English – The letter was posted on the internet Friday – by Saturday night the contents were quite familar to the residents of Mea Shearim. Those who advocate violence were furious with it.
