New York City has more than 1,700 parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities. The Parks Department is also in charge of 14 miles of beaches.
Health Commissioner Thomas Farley says New Yorkers shouldn’t have to breathe second-hand smoke, even outside. He says children shouldn’t even have to see people smoking.
Bloomberg faced a tough political battle when he banned smoking in restaurants and bars in 2002.
No question in anybody’s mind that he’s overdoing it and crossing a line, but who’ll speak up?
Kain yirbu! BH for mayor bloomberg who cares about the health of people unlike the selfish smokers who not only dont care about their own bodies, they dont care about the people around them with their second hand smoke and their incessant need to litter the planted with the cigarette remnants.
And no sneezing or breathing on the Subways. whats next ?
This guy bloomburg need to be voted out of office ASAP. He’s gone overboard.
Excellent Idea, those want to be unhealthy can do so in their own home and garden
if this passes, he has my vote. i am tired of asthma flareups just from walking around in the park and breathing in other peoples ciggarets
Fantastic…he should do that and have everyone do 10 pushups before they enter, 10 lunges as they visit and 75 situps to get out of the park.
ridiculous next week someone will say water sholuld be banned and bloomie will ban water or fine us for drinking
Great idea! I’m tired of breathing other peoples’ second hand smoke when I want to enjoy fresh air.
Just another way to make money Bloomberg will do anything to make $$ enough with putting his hand in ur pocket let’s vote him out.
This is a great idea! I think smoking should be banned in public. Period! No need for me to get sick when I sit on my porch because the guy next door is smoking.
Great idea! There is not enough police patrolling the parks and now that they will have to look for cigarettes, there may be more police. They should make a political cartoon of someone smoking a cigarette and the police pursuing them to give them a ticket and in the meantime someone is being held up and the police just pass them by.
There are still kollels where if you walk by during the breaks you will see both rabbonim and bochurim smoking outside by the door. This is such a dreche habit that anyone still doing so should be fired/expelled for exposing other yidden to sakanas nefesh.
According to the signs hung outside of the parks you are not allwed to smoke in a park so this is a waste of time.
Ma Bein Yisrael Le’amim.
They want to ban smoking everywhere because they realize the danger and the discomfort that smoking causes to others. We as a Klal can not even get Bnei Torah to stop smoking inside buildings. It is a true Bizayon. In the current Daf Yomi the second Perek of Maseches Baba Basra it discusses various issues involving damaging other people’s property. How the more so is it clearly asur to smoke in any location where the smoke will be inhaled by another person. A smoker is plain and simply a MAZIK. Yom Kipur is not mechaper for Bein Adam Lchavero. It is really sad to see that Bnei Torah are so far behind the civilized world on this issue. It is an absolute Chillul Hashem and Bizayon Hatorah.
“I agree!!! Why don’t smokers realize what they do to asthma sufferers?????? Im sick and tired of cigarette smoke induced asthma attacks!”
Others such as myself are sick of getting fibromyalgia attacks that are brought on by cigarette smoke. We might be feeling pretty good, then suddenly an exposure to cigarette smoke, and plenty of muscle ache.
