New York City’s Times Square is no stranger to odd and flashy scenes, and Sunday night, the first eve of Chol HaMoed Sukkos, was no different.

The major intersection in Manhattan might have been witness to the largest mobile Sukkah in the world.

This according to Rabbi Mordy Hirsch and the men at the Mitzvah Tank Office in Crown Heights.

It took them a few days to build the 6 meter-long Sukkah on the back of a trailer truck, which was then driven through Manhattan to park near Kosher Delight on Broadway (between 36th and 37th Streets).

Hirsch, who is assisted in this project by R’ Meir Ashkenasi from Israel, told COLlive he is considering filing a request to the Guinness World Records for the title.

If they want to do a big mitzvah, they should drive tonight down to Bal Harbor Florida and park in front of the condo that tore down somone’s sucah for violating the condo association rules.

Why would he possibly want this in Guiness?

To even considering getting the recognition from Guinnes World Records leads me to believe that the reason it was done was not merely to be able to be Mezakeh jews with a Sukkah, it for publicity and for the kick out of it, but who cares?

    To all very knowledgeable commentators:

    1. This Sukkah is built for many years by Chabad and is always the same size.

    2. Why would they want it in Guiness? Because if a Jew flips through the book and stumbles upon this Mitzvah he might, just might, be reminded of the yomtov and tempted to visit or even build a sukkah.

    3. Knowing R’ Mordi, he is far from the type to do thing for the publicity.
