New York – Bloomberg: I Was Not The Target In Close Mayoral Contest, It’s National Backlash

    43

New York – New York City’s billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg is trying to portray his narrow third term win as part of a national backlash against incumbents.

Bloomberg says his five-point victory over Democrat William Thompson Jr. wasn’t about voter resentment over the way he overturned term limits last year.

He told reporters Wednesday that voters are upset about the economy. He pointed to other elections Tuesday as proof.

New Jersey’s governor was unseated by his GOP challenger and Virginia voters elected a Republican to succeed their Democratic governor.

Meanwhile, Westchester County’s executive lost his bid for a fourth term. And a Long Island incumbent county executive was in danger of being unseated — the race was still too close to call Wednesday.

I knew the humility wouldn’t last long. Not even 24 hours! What an arrogant person! Basically he is saying everyone still loves him and he’s doing a great job so theres no reason to change and be more attentive to the needs of the middle class. I knew this’d happen. Lets all sit down and cry for voting him back in.

Nothing uglier than a “sore winner.” He won. Let him enjoy the win and be humbled by the fact that he just made it. He’s so immature and in denial about his image its ridiculous.

He is right….the only option available to NY voters to express their frustration with the status quo was to vote against incumbents like Bloomberg. When you talk to most new yorkers, they have only the greatest respect for what he has done and the wonderful role model he provides, especially for the jewish community. His personal hashkafah and midos are exemplary and while not ultra orthodox, he personifies the life of a jew with torah values. Thats why all the leading rabbis, including the chashuve chassideshe leadership supported him.

I woke up and found a ticket on my widow for expired inspection sticker.
I got to my store i got 2 tickets from the Sanitation Police..
Two hours later Fire dept. walked in to my store and wrote me violations.
I sure deserved it Bloomie..I did NOT vote for you, but will fight every single summons.

I was fully aware that Bloomberg was going to win. Yet, my conscience was bothering me about voting for him. I wanted him to know that votes that he expected would not go to him, and that there were real reasons for it. However, he got spit in his face, and he concluded it must be raining. Perhaps I don’t count for much, only 1 vote at my last count. As mayor for 2 terms, he was not the evil corruption we witnessed in an earlier administration, but I have always felt that he did the same taxing as any Democrat, just packaged and labeled differently. Use of ticketing with consequences of towing, fines, penalties, etc. is simple bullying. It has nothing to do with safety or fighting crime. And as long as I still own a car (parking legally), I could not sanction another term. I did not find another alternative. So I voted in order to fulfill the frum leadership’s admonition to be counted among those who went out to vote. What will happen when Bloomberg recants on his campaign purchases and doesn’t shower the mosdos with money?

Look mayor, you can spin it any way you like, but as the saying goes ” a rose is still a rose no matter what you call it ” and there’s only so much pain and suffering that you can inflict on your lowly subjects before they’ll rise up and say enough is enough.

Yesterday was a real wake up call. The message from the voters was loud and clear.

Dear Mayor, you have four more years where you can still redeem yourself and make a real difference while leaving a positive legacy behind.

I know it’s hard for you, but you have to be more attentive to needs of the common people, instead of constantly coming up with schemes oppressing the populace try to cut the bureaucratic red tape, roll back on the outrageous fines and fees that have so cruelly initiated, do the right thing, remember it’s in your hands. it’s not too late.

He is a bully who bullies the middle class. He cannot even understand the daily plight of the average working man. The ticket blitzes and the outrageous fines for them is what turned me awayfrom voting for him. On a personal note if I were as wealthy as he is I don’t know if I’d be any different.

Ignorance is bliss. Have a nice life. Its actually the first time in my life that I feel my vote made a difference. I votes conservative, even though I knew bloomy would win just so he wins with smaller margin and it actually happened. Hurray.

MR BLOOMBERG: I voted against you because you changed the law on term limits. You’ve done a fairly good job without polarizing the city like the last Republican Mayor. but your change on term limits cost you my vote.

    Typical ego maniacs.
White House: its local issues who was at the center of the elections
Bloomberg: its national issues who made the trend
Not he and them are right, people are fed up, fed up
And if they don’t get the massage, it will cost them double, look on the GOP under the bush years

I worked for his campaign knocking on people’s doors. All I can say is it was a foolish silly campaign plan. I understand you might want to knock on peoples doors one time, maybe twice, but in the last week, I personally had to knock on the doors of some of my neighbors 4 times. It’s really embarrassing and people were getting fed up. Instead of spending your money hiring people like me to knock on doors, maybe he should have taken some of that money and invested it into nyc schools or the subway or anything, that way people would see he really cares about new york

In the Mayor’s statement you can see the chutzpah and that he is on an ego trip, half a million people 48% of the votes went against him, and he states that no one ment him because of term limits-the ment the economy, WOW.

Thats why yesterday in his speech he never acknowledged the 48% that he will reach out to them, to him its like they don’t exsist. Bloomy, the higher you go, the faster you fall-and let it be soon.

So only the people who voted for him care about the economy, he feels that “we the people” are just nuts and he is right, there should have been 1 million people voting against him and he would have said “they are not angry at me, they are angry at O’bama”.

you piss in his face and he says its raining, now wait what he will do to us in the next 4 years.

Reb Millhouse: Have you ever been to NYC. If so, you would know how much better off we are today with Bloomberg as compared with other mayors. Maybe when you can save a few dollars and buy a Greyhound bus ticket, you should visit NYC and then you would know how silly your comment is.

Right now i am still recovering from the massive headache received from the oversized vehicle riding around Boro Park screaming who to vote for and playing music on loud decibles. Funny, on Tuesday i did not notice any meter maids at the 38th and 39th Street and 13th/14th Avenue neighborhood where they usually frequent in masses. Yesterday they were there again, as usual. Perhaps, they were getting overtime for the day off they may have had unofficially on Tuesday.
Chevra, we are being taxed for paying taxes, for the MTA. Soon we’ll just be receiving the pay stubs as all will go to the government.
By the way, where will the buses be leaving for Washington tomorrow to show we are against what the idiots want to do with healthcare.
Sean Hannity and others are talking about it …we too should be having buses from our neighborhoods including all ethnicities. Perhaps, some of our tax money could be used to fly us with helicopters so we get back in time to work and pay more taxes. At this point we are gettin 40% of total check!!
