Kol hakovod to the brave young men and women for standing up to the misguided decision by the beureaucrats in the Department of Tranportation that removed the bike lane markings so some lazy yidden can double park their cars and run into the restaurants and stores on Bedford Avenue to fres or shop. Shame on them. They will ride here anyway so it should be safe.

These “artists” have a sense of self entitlement. Yashar Koach for the shomrim and police to remind them that they are not in charge.

Common criminals just like “graffiti artists” . They should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Can not wait till critical mass targets Redford avenue for a big ride. The streets do not belong to any one group and cycling as a form of transportarion is here to stay. I hope the drivers, cyclists and pedestrians can all respect each other.

where I live they but bike lanes and do not see what the problem is. The bike lane just made the area for cars slightly narrower. maybe, it blocks people from double parking which one should no do anyways or stop people from standing in the street waiting to cross.

Truthfully, most cyclist will use Bedford avenue anyways regardless if the is a bike lane or not.

Call the police on these guys. Since when do hooded guys make the law at midnight. The streets are governed by the Dept of Transportation, not some criminals who take law inot their own hands.

The same bike lane that makes the street safer for cyclists and slows down traffic on Bedford makes it safer for all the children and elderly people crossing the street. Since when do the people who live or study on or near Bedford Ave. want MORE traffic to move FASTER through their streets? If a driver’s in that big a hurry, let him take the BQE instead of a local road. Bicycles and bicyclists are much less of a danger to pedestrians than cars or trucks, and add zero pollution to the neighborhood. What’s the greater evil? Having your child develop asthma because of auto exhaust or your being bubbe hit and injured or, Hashem forbid, killed, by a speeding car, or having to seeing an “immodestly” dressed cyclists ankles’ by accident? Most cyclists ride because they care about their community and how their actions impact their neighbors — can you say the same?

i dont know the politics, but id like to more bike lanes in williamsburg. Bike lanes means yuppies and artists. Yuppies and artists means higher property values.

Anarchy? Really? Repainting bike lanes for safety is equivalent to anarchy?

If hipsters/cyclists were mugging people whenever they needed to buy a new bike-part, meal, or alcoholic beverage… I could see the use of “anarchy” to describe their ways. But, fighting for your safety is to be expected, and should be a right that is protected.

I imagine they should not let anyone with so much invested, so much emotion, rule on this simple safety measure. Let the youth (uncorrupted, less greedy and less bullheaded) decide on the simple matters like this. Let cyclists paint lanes and save your city some money.

The definition of “anarchy” is “a state of lawlessness”. When hipsters take the law into their own hands they are engaging in anarchy.
