Today, the Payur Ruv, Rav Moshe Dov Weinberger passed away at the age of 85 after an illness. Rav Moshe, well known throughout the Williamsburg community and beyond, was a housebucher and close confidant of Rav Yoel Teitelbaum zatzal. Both his remarkable memory as well as his
extraordinary dedication to the Rebbe zatzal were legendary. They were well known during the Rebbe’s lifetime, and recognized by the Satmar Rebbe himself. As the Rebbe grew older he relied more on more on Reb Moshe Dov until his passing in 1979.

Reb Moshe Dov was a young man who survived the holocaust, who attached himself to the Satmar Rebbe shortly after the war. Rav Weinberger was the grandson of the Bogoder Ruv.

Reb Moshe Dov served as the repository of any and all information concerning the Satmar Ruv – whether it had to do with his minhagim, Torah, stories, and opinions – the Payur Rav was the authoritative source for it all.

His Bies Medrosh Payur Shul is a well known icon in Williamsburg. The levay’a will be held at 11:30 PM at his Shul on Marcy Ave.

Unfortunately a lot of the holy people left are in their 80’s and 90’s so we are dealing with the last years of many of these holy peoples lives. We should make every opportunity to get a kesher with these aging tzaddikim be it to ask shailos or just go for brachos and most importantly bring your kids. They should see with their own eyes what tzaddikim of yesteryear were like. Create a memory for them.

“One of our last links to Kedusha is now gone” What exactly does that mean? There are Boruch Hashem many “Holy” people alive.

“One of our last links to Kedusha is now gone”

    Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.

I’m not sure what you meant to say in your first sentence, though. When all the Rabbonim from the Holocaust generation pass away, we will have no “links to Kedusha”? What does that mean?

There seems to be a growing belief that all the gadlim are either niftar or have one foot in the grave and the younger generation of rabbonim coming behind them are not in the same league and lack the kedushah, yiras shamayim and lamdus of the alter rabbonim who are leaving us. Excuse my french but that is a crock….we have dozens of young and upcoming rabbonim in all the various factions of yiddeshkeit including chassidus, MO, and even litvashe who are the intellectual and spiritual equals of Rav Weinbereger, Z’tl, or the other recently niftar gadolim. Lets stop putting down the new generation of the leadership of klal yisroel.

I just realized this is probably not the time or place to debate the merits of the rabbonim of old versus those of today. The loss of the Payur Rov, Z’tl, is a tragedy for ALL of us whatever our views on the more abstract issue of old versus new , and we should all daven that his zchus will benefit to all of klal yisroel.

comparing today’s Godolim to the past irrelevent. The comment of “one of the last threads to Kedusha is gone” is a silly statement. Do you mean to say that after the older generation is gone, there will be no more threads to Kedusha???Should have said an important thread of Kedusha is gone. No matter the status of the Dors Gedolim, there are always threads to Kedusha in every generation.

The article clearly starts out that “One of our last links to Kedusha is now gone”. That’s one, not all. Sure we are still threaded to the Kedusha and we will always be until we finally get Oisgeleized from this bitter Golus.

All the Seforim (that talk about it) say that the Nekudeh that seperates a Yid from a Goy is Kedusha, as real Kedusha can only be found in Klal Yisroel. To illustrate it a little, Islam promises 72 virgins in Gan Eden, so they must think that this is what they do in Gan Eden. Lehavdil Elelf Alfei Havdolois Judaism teaches that Tzadikim Yoshvim Ve’atoroseihem Berosheihem VENEHENIN MEZIV HASCHINAH; what a fundamental difference. That’s why we say “Vehivdilonu Min Hatoyim Venosan Lonu Torath Emes. All other teachings are predicated on Sheker..

There are very few “real” rebbe’s left…maybe the rebbe’s of Gur, Belz, and munkatz… the vishnitzer and sadigura rebbe’s are very old and not fully active,

The rebbe’s of boston and lelov..were just recently niftar.
