To his shock he found swastikas and hateful remarks against Jews written around the Menorah.

Village of Goshen police and State police arrived immediately and an investigation has begun. “This is totally unacceptable” says Rabbi Borenstein who’s grandfather was a survivor of the holocaust. “Living here in Goshen with all religions together we strive to be supportive and loving to each other. Never should anyone in any group or religion feel hatred or dislike by another. We the Jewish community are in shock that in today’s day and age in the heart of such a beautiful village of Goshen there can be hatred.

The menorah is a symbol of light and freedom. Let it shine to everyone and erase all such negativity.”

Rabbi M. Borenstein is the Chabad spiritual leader of the Jewish community in Goshen, NY

That’s one reason why chazal did not mandate that we light menoras in our yards.

Chaunakah started on 12/12. If it is in 8 night celebration, why are the candles up 10 days later? Just curious.

Perhaps it was a message from Hashem to the frum community in Goshen, NY – just like the Jews in Mitzrayim, who lived in Goshen and were spared from the makkos, had to leave to go to Eretz Yisrael, perhaps these Jews in Goshen, NY should not be so comfortable either. I’m just saying.
