Jerusalem – Hamas said Wednesday that it had thwarted an Israeli attempt to release kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit through non-diplomatic means. Hamas security claims the Shin Bet attempted to get to Shalit using Palestinian collaborators.

The commander of the Hamas government’s internal security office, which functions as the counterpart of Israel’s Shin Bet, announced that his men had detained a cell of former Palestinian security officers on suspicion that they had been involved in an attempt to gather information on the whereabouts of the soldier.
Abu-Abdullah told the Palestine Times website that the cell had been in touch with Israel. “We arrested members of a cell made up of a number of collaborators, who rented a home and vehicles on the east side of the southern Gaza Strip,” he said.
“They planned to kidnap a senior member of Hamas’ military wing, Izz a-Din a-Qassam Brigades, in order to convey him to the Israeli side as part of their efforts to find Shalit.”
Abu-Abdullah added that the Shin Bet was continuing its efforts to gather information on the soldier’s whereabouts. “Even the war was part of the effort to find out his location and try to get to him,” he said.
“The cell’s scheme was foiled at the last minute. They had a ready plan for action and it was very similar to the kidnapping of Muhawesh al-Kadi,” Abu-Abdullah added in reference to a senior Hamas official, who was said to have been involved in Shalit’s capture and who was reportedly kidnapped by the IDF near his home in Rafah.

I don’t think its a good idea to do a commando style operation in getting Shalit back, even if they rescue Shalit they can still capture other soldiers, or some soldiers can get killed during the rescue attempt.

The price for such an operation isn’t only Shalit, but the not releasing of a thousand murderers.
Does hamas think that they are owed diplomacy. Let us not forget this was a kidnapping. The fact that Hamas has enough legitimacy to arrest people in their attempt to help Israel free the victim, is sickening. Oh boy Israel is “scheming” to free him. You poor kidnappers?!
Additionally, this story is probably a complete farce to begin with.
If you ask me I think this is a ploy to retain those men who are anti-Hamas. So you come up with the collaborator story. Typical Arab scheme we’ve seen through the ages
We have had a serious problem with managing the challenge of confronting terror. The words “peace” and “negotiation” sound really benevolent, and are politically cool. However, they are beyond stupid, if considered practically, and the attitude behind all this just rewards and promotes terrorism. We should have confronted each and every act of terror with quick,lightning blitzes that cause maximum damage and loss of life for the terrorists, including their actual organizations, their host countries, and virtually all their sympathizers. Public opinion is completely against Israel anyway. Just check the records of United Nations activities. We should not be holding a single terrorist in prison. We should be sending their decapitated bodies back to them to place in their mourning tents. They are totally barbaric, and will never be parties to “negotiations”. When Israel and USA understand this, the picture will change. Until then, it is “same old, same old”.
A principle of negotiating is good-faith. The Israelis are negotiating with Hamas. They can’t use underhanded tactics! It is a chillul shaem! What will the goyim think of Jews! How can we act as scoundrels?! Israel must act with honor – carpet bomb the entire Gaza!! Then tell Abbas if there’s any problems from his part of the country, to expect the same. That’s how you negotiate in good-faith.
As a soldier, I would feel that it is my duty to go in and rescue Shalit even at a cost of losing my life or the life of one of the guys in my unit. That’s our job. To say that no one should try to rescue Shalit because it might cost others lives is like saying that a fireman shouldn’t go near a burning building for fear of getting injured.

This is baloney. In my opinion, the IDF should resume its targeted killing of Hamas Leadership. Why they stopped I don’t understand. They can take out the leaders and then Gaza will be set adrift and can be retaken easily with the population’s help. They are probably sick of living under Taliban rules already.
That’s the only option left, to pick them off one by one until they cave in. That’s what the United States is doing in Afghanistan and that’s what Israel should do.
I think this a better way to go than being their slave and going every day for diffrent deals etc
The obcession over Shalit is going to cost many lives. We all feel for the parents but the IDF and security forces may be focusing too much time an resources on one hostage at the expense of protecting EY’s borders and killing terrorists within the west bank and gaza.
We must daven, with great kavana, and give tzedaka, for the safe release of Gilad Shalit, alive and well. Please do it.
These operations are precisely what Israel needs to do. Or kidnap top level hamas people and then barter one for one. Or kidnap family of hamas people and barter them.
Jewish “terrorists” should kidnap hamas family members for trade with shalit instead of torhcing mosques which does nothing.
