Jacob Israel Margalit, 44-year-old married father of two and owner of Golden West Tile and Stone, died Monday night in the 29000 block of Avenue Sherman in Castaic. He was trying to unload 12-by-8-foot slabs of stone tile from a trailer about 7:45 p.m. when they fell on him, authorities said.
“The slabs came loose and fell against (Margalit) and pinned him against the side wall of the trailer,” said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Marsh of the Homicide Bureau. “Each of these slabs can weigh between 800 and 1,000 pounds apiece.”
Paramedics pronounced Margalit dead at 8:20 p.m. before a rescue team removed the slabs with a crane, authorities said.
Officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, or Cal/OSHA, are also investigating the death, Marsh said.
Last month a similar episode happened to a Chinese man in a Boro park warehouse.
