Local legend Joseph Rollino was struck as he was crossing Bay Ridge Parkway. He suffered a broken pelvis, head trauma and broken ribs and died a few hours later at a hospital. He was known as Kid Dundee in his boxing days and was regarded as a model of health.

His friends say Rollino was a vegetarian for life, didn’t drink or smoke and exercised every day. He was a lifetime boxer and was part of an organization of men who rip book binders at the seam.

Police say the driver of the minivan was going the speed limit and had not been drinking.

The NY Times has more details on Mr. Rollino

Too many of these pedestrian accidents lately invovling the elderly. Not much can be done to prevent them other than care by the drivers. We should say telihim for avraham ben sarah unless someone has the real name.

There is one more solution. Have pedestrians try to cross legally, at the crosswalk, with the light and perhaps dress in something not all black. As a driver I am constantly stunned at the dark jaywalkers in the rain.
I am not saying this was the problem here but we should all be more careful.

And whoever said that pedstrians have the right away do not know what they are talking about there is NO Law that says pedestrians can do what they want.

As much as we have bad drivers cruising our streets the amount of stupid pedestrians is extremely high and there is no number that is high enough to explain the craziness of pedestrians.

How many times do we have pedestrians dart out of between two cars after a corosswalk and on a 90 degree angle while a driver is making a turn into the block?

How many tiems do we back up after looking and then we hear a bang on the trunk with someone yelling don’t you look?

Why are people so stupid and decide to walk behind a car that is backing into a car spot or trying to pull out?

Why do elderly people jay walk?

Why when people are jaywalkinh drivers go faster and nearly miss hitting people?

Why can’t everyone drive defensively and abide by all traffic laws?

WHy can’t pedestrians use their brains and let a car that is making a turn into a block, complete the turn? By you darting into the crosswalk after the car made the turn first and causing the car to stop , you cause amajor accidents with other vehicles that suddenly stop in the t

Many times these accidents happen when the driver is turning into the street, in which case the pedestrian always has the right of way.
