In addition to the staggering death toll, another estimated 3 million people have been injured and left without homes.

The US and International Monetary Fund (IMF) each pledged USD 100 M to help the victims of the disaster.

The US is also sending up to 3,500 soldiers and 2,200 marines to assist rescue efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake, BBC reports Thursday.

President Barack Obama said Haiti would “not be forgotten” in its hour of need in one the biggest relief efforts in recent US history.

The search for survivors continues but rescuers lack heavy lifting equipment and many are using their bare hands.

1/3 of the whole country homeless!!
The Gemara teaches us to be mefashfesh be-maaseynu when such things occur to other nations. In an instant Hashem can bring down an entire country. In an instant. So no one should think the Zionist state is immune!

Yidden, do teshuva!!! Five years ago, Hashem sent a tsunami to Asian countries like Thailand, which killed 250,000 goyim. This time, Hakodosh Boruch Hu sent an earthquake which killed 50,000 Haitians. Both disasters are signs that G-d is warning Yidden to repent.

In 1923, when an earthquake killed 100,000 people in Tokyo, the Chofetz Chaim ztz”l said the deaths of Japanese ovdei kochavim were a sign that G-d wanted the Yidden to do Teshuva. The Chofetz Chaim’s son-in-law, R’ Yechezkel Levenstein ztz”l, wrote about this in his sefer Ohr Yechezkel, chelek 4, p. 153.
