Zuckerman, 72, holds vast real estate assets and is publisher of the New York Daily News and editor-in-chief of U.S. News and World Report. In 2006 Zuckerman was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 147th richest American, and his private fortune is currently estimated at $2 billion.
The Times reported that individuals close to Zuckerman said he views current Senator from New York Kirsten Gillibrand as vulnerable, and hopes that as an outsider to government and a veteran business executive, he will appeal to the state’s electorate. Gillibrand, a Democrat, was appointed by New York Governor David Paterson to fill the seat vacated by Hillary Clinton upon taking office as secretary of state.
From 2001 to 2003, Zuckerman served as chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. His Upper East Side home frequently plays host to prominent Israeli visitors; Zuckerman visits Israel often and is involved in a number of Jewish and Israeli causes.
A spokesman for Zuckerman, Ken Frydman, said he was unavailable for comment on Friday afternoon, beyond saying that the publisher “is not interested in running for public office.”
Born in Montreal, Zuckerman is a naturalized American citizen.
All this idolatrous adulation about his wealth and his experience ordering people around. These are not good reasons to elect him as a Senator. If anything they are strong arguments against it. If VIN wants him elected because he’s Jewish, then we should not object when the Aryan Nations pushes for a “Whites Only” Legislature or Blacks vote along strictly racial lines.
Run morty run!
erudite on economic issues and policies and unabashedly pro Israel – can’t wait to call him Senator Zuckerman!
Is He A D Or R?
Awesome. Finally, a senator we all — ALL New Yorkers, not just VIN readers — can be proud of. He is probably one of the most intelligent, articulate thinkers in NY. He has my vote!
According to Wikipedia, since the late 1970s he has donated more than $68,000 to American political candidates, with $42,700 going to Democratic politicians and $24,000 to others. His most recent donation was $2,000 to the Al Franken campaign (opensecrets.org).
He will go to sleep tonight as a liberal, and wake up tomorrow as a new man. Tomorrow he will brand himself as a centrist. When the morons in the masses buy that, he will rebrand himself as a Republican. When the morons in the masses buy that, he will push the envelope further, rebranding himself as a Michael Savage conservative. When the morons in the masses believe that he will win the primary. Once he wins the primary, he will be a centrist once again. When he wins the senate seat, he will be Arlen Specter version 2.0.
The trouble is that he is a billionaire and would be impossible to beat in any subsequent election once he becomes the incumbent. The good news though is, come November he is already 73 years old, so he probably won’t last forever in the senate like Byrd, Domenici, Stevens and Inouye.
But I wish him gezunt un laynge yohr regardless.
I cant wait to see HIM debating in senate and giving speeches and over all fighting/working for up new yorkers not like the other two
Mr. Zuckerman, I always respected you since you are an obviously are a smart man. My advice to you would be to establish a legacy at this peak in your life by working with Mr. Steinhardt towards helping Am Yisrael. There is such great need for leadership in Jewish Education and Social Services. Please rededicate your effort to helping your fellow Yidden. Look at Bill Gates and his Foundation. Mr. Gates has abandoned helping Americans. So many other philanthropists help generic causes. The Jewish Community in the US and Canada need YOUR leadership. Leave politics to the worthless skunks who already sold us to the Chinese Communists and Mexican Drug Lords. Noone is left with the ability to help an increasingly needy Jewish Community.
Isn’t he the guy , sitting next to Buchanan on a particular tv show ?
re: #13
Not next to Buchanan, diagonally across from him.
Buchanan is on the viewers’ right and Zuckerman on the viewers’ left!
Replacing Schumer with Zuckerman is like : farzetzin dem shofar und koifen di megillah. ( l’havdil ) .
