New York – All New York City public schools and some private yeshiva schools will be closed on Friday in response to the huge snowstorm that pounded the region overnight.

Dozens of other school districts in New Jersey, Westchester County and Long Island also canceled classes on Friday.
Before dawn, snow was still falling heavily, leaving foot-deep drifts in Times Square and turning roads across the region into skating rinks.
Tips for walking on snow and general safety on slippery surfaces to help avoid injuries.
• Move your feet ever so slightly apart as you walk. This will give you better balance. If the street is very slippery, bend your knees a little bit.
• When going down an incline, consider turning sideways. Do NOT cross one foot over the other, as you will have no balance while your feet are crossed. If the ground is steep, bend your knees.
• Don’t forget to protect your dominant arm. That would be the right if you are a righty, the left one if you are a lefty. Since a fall occurs very quickly, you have no time to plan for that. One recommendation is to grab hold of the lapel of your coat with your dominant hand, which instinctively leaves the other one to break your fall. If you are carrying something, do so with the dominant hand.
Bus service in northern New Jersey has also been suspended.
Thanks for the advice I was already on the floor going down from the sidewalk while trying to cross an intersection

With the kids home how are the balabustas going to prepare for shabbos??
I heard that due to the sakanna nefoshos of going out today (and possibly tomorrow) that the rabbonim are meeting as we speak to make a hefsake in the luach so shabbos and Purim will be postponed by a day. Think of it as you will have two Thursdays and Friday will be tomorrow.
