Residents of the neighborhood turned violent because of an archaeological dig taking place in the northern site of Tzippori. Four ultra-Orthodox men were arrested on suspicion they planned to travel there in order to interfere with the dig.

At 10:30 am haredim began to throw stones at a Border Guard jeep in Jerusalem. One officer was injured by the stones and evacuated to the hospital.

Three hours later haredim threw stones at vehicles and buses in Mea Shearim and Yehezkel Street. A military vehicle sustained damage, prompting police to shut down roads and public transportation leading to the neighborhood, but no one has been arrested.

The conflict was ignited when a man decided to build on land he acquired in Tzippori, which had been found to contain archaeological findings. The man was ordered by the Antiquities Authority to allow a dig, which uncovered an ancient Jewish burial cave.

The authority notified the police and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of its findings and said it planned to dig further in order to document them.

But large groups of haredim have been arriving to protest at the site for the past few days, fearing the graves may be damaged. Four were arrested, and others were prevented from entering the area. The dig began Sunday morning, with large police forces securing the group of scientists.

Isn’t there anyone frum enough for these people to accept to oversee the dig & make sure no one damages the Kvarim? Surely the IAA has frum people on its staff. Or if they’re not Eda Hareidid, does that make them aporkosim?

I bet if one where to dig in Mea Shearim deep enough one will find bones too. the whole are it built over on top of older cities.

I think all then people from Mea Shearim should move from there since it is built over dead bodies

The weather has been unseasonably warm, and so the chareidm from Meah She’arim don’t want to learn , they want to play. This is their game; destroy public property, throw stones, and prove to all that they are just a bunch of hoodlums. Hoodlums leshem shamayim, of course.

We have to realize how much these people are moser nefesh. They left Yerushalayim last night at 12am! they travelled upto two hours to get there! Even getting beaten and arrested dont stop them! This is true Kidush Hashem! Rabbeinu Yona in Sharei Tishuva writes that in reality it is impossible to honor Hashem, after all he has everything. What honoring Hashem means is that we show that to us Hashem is special. Thefore, explains Rabbeinu Yona, honoring Hashem means that even when it is difficult we do Hashems will. This is why one who dies Al Kiddush Hashem is considered to have been Mikadesh Shem Shamayim to the fullest extent. That is because he shows that doing Hashems will is worth more then anything! Honoring Hashem does NOT mean that people think we are doing the right thing! A person who dies so as not to worship an idol is Mikadesh Shem Shamayim even if everyone thinks he is nuts. Although we do find the idea of Kidush Shem Shamayim by a Jew who acts nicelt, this does Not apply when it comes to Mitzvas. When we do Mitzvas the biggest Kidush Hashem is when people think we are crazy and we do it anyway. This shows how much we value doing Hashems will!

Had this digging been taking place in Poland, you’d all be screaming for heads to roll. But it’s Israel, and the archaeologists are chilonim and the protesters are chareidim, so you find it okay that that they unearth Jewish remains. Shame on you!

Ultra-Orthodox set garbage containers alight and blocked off streets in the Mea Shearim and Geula neighborhoods of Jerusalem, to protest the arrest of haredim in Northern Israel who were remanded for disturbing the peace while demonstrating against excavation works.

Public transport is not running. Police are at the site, and no injuries have been reported.

So your fine with sitting back and watching while they dig up our ancestors from zeman habayis?
Do you have any better suggestions than demonstrating (which you say is hooliganism and dialogue that never worked in the past)

The proposed site for Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel is filled with graves, but the Eida has no problem dealing with them since those homes are slated for their people.

Its amazing how everyone is cursing me out, but not one person explained why I am wrong. Look at Rabbeinu Yona in Perek # when he talks about people who dont have a share in the world to come. I am just quoting his words. What a great way to have a disagreement #1 You are stupid #2 You are even stupider… Sounds like a bunch of three year olds! I mean no offense, but lets get real!

I want to make this quite clear, if my grave was to be found in a couple of hundred years & would be needed to be moved to make way for a road or a building or whatever, then please go ahead & do so.
I promise to come & haunt any hareidim that try to stop this progress from happening by using MY bones in their political fights.

Problem is that the charedim have no education. They should go to school and become archiologists. then they should get a permit to dig up their beloved rabin looking for his historic artifactual face. lets see if when it comes to anything sacred to them they would also agree! DONT BE DOUBLE STANDARD! you would never agree when it’s your closer relative! Whey when then when the charedim stand up for the deceased rights do you pop up your ugly head! All you who advocate digging up remains of people I hope you don’t have to get to this, but if you cant get the message yourself, I hope your beloved ones get the same treatment. Look yourself in the mirror and say here is a self hating jew.
