The New York Police Department issued 3,753 summonses for using hand-held cell phones while driving during the first 18 hours of a daylong crackdown Thursday. Each ticket carries a fine of up to $150.
The department says it issued an average of 617 summonses a day last year for cell-phone offenses.
Good job! They should start ticketing for wheeling a carriage while talking in the phone!
You mean for those who push the carrage into the intersection first. To check if they can cross
ticket them all….raise money that way
You probably mean, for those who don’t mind to kill their kids to be able to see when they can cross…
3,753 -$150.00 TOTAL $562,950.00
I totally agree! It is insane how many young mothers just wheel their baby’s right into oncoming traffic.
That’s more than a half million dollars for Bloomberg’s coffers.
Ya think he gives a hoot about people’s sfaty? YOU WISH! It’s all about money, and in my oipnion this borders on criminal.
And Bloomberg’s buddy is who? You guessed it, the tzaddik ‘Reb’ Duvid Greenfeld who is going to make sure we get less tickets. Yeah, right!
Its gives then the right to stop you if you’re holding anything in your hand (a drink,a CD or even your Bluetooth) and they will ticket you so where is the Chochmah it that. Its a money generator and that is all thay could care less if you kill yourself or anyone else as long as they are counting the money so don’t be fooled
Are there less accidents ever since they made it illegal or just more money?
1 thing I can say I driving in manhattan Every day about 90 % police cars (drivers) r talking on the phone they talking on the phone passing red light speeding even thursday I see police passing red lights talking on the phone texting but ???
What should be challenged is the law that in plain english states that tickets can not be given in order to raise money for the city. This is an old law regarding parking ttickets and has never been challenged!
If one chuchum can prove this then all tickets will be thrown out.
Ad for cell phone tickets the penalty should be 1,000 and the thrird time you lose your license for 10 years.
Mayor Bloomberg agrees witht the fines being higher when I recieved his response and said he is working with Shelly Silver and the state to make the fines higher.
This is the only way to get people to stop using the cell phones by making the fines higher.
I think it would be a good idea if they crack down cars who doesn’t stop for school bus stop sign
So many people get ticketed even if they weren’t talking on the phone… Once a police issues a ticket u have no way of proving otherwise. Its about time that they pass a bill stating that the cops have to prove that u were wrong instead of it being the other way around…
Look, you have to face the fact YOU CAN NOT DRIVE AND TALK ON THE CELL PHONE! FINISHED! It is too dangerous. Drivers talking on cell phones do not concentrate on the road! I have seen accidents, short stops, etc. happen because of this! Yes, go ahead and ticket every person driving and talking on the cell phone and in my humble opinion $150. is way to little!
