The officers spotted the haredim as they were uprooting the monument, not far from the corner of Jaffa and Nordau streets in downtown Jerusalem. The youngsters, who left the monument at a nearby parking lot after removing it, refused to explain the act to investigators.

According to police, one of the suspects attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended following a short chase.

A memorial plaque listing the terror victims’ names was not damaged.

On the morning of February 25, 1996, a suicide bomber blew himself up himself on a No.18 bus traveling down Jaffa Road near the Jerusalem Central Bus Station. Twenty-six people were killed and 48 injured.

On the morning of March 3, 1996, a suicide bomber boarded another No. 18 bus, detonating an explosive belt that killed 19 people and wounded 7.

This past Wednesday a bonfire was lit at a memorial for fallen Israeli soldiers in Tiberias. The people who lit the fire were not caught.

I was there when one of the buses exploded. Shame on these youths. Shame on their parents, their rabonim and the entire community that was not mechanech these kids that some things are just not done. I am curious to see how the community will react to this boosha and how mechanichim will teach the lesson.

Thats what happens when they dont let kids have any physical outlets. They dont let them play ball or go to the gym. Misguided frumkeit leads to vandalism and violence (like the the never ending meah shearim riots).

I like the first sour posts. For five idiodic dropouts they’re ready to bash an entire comunity… I’m just wandering how they would react to an arest of a drug addict in their comunity.

how long are we going to sit with our thumbs in our mouths wondering where our religion is headed? remember, there were many muslims who looked at the jihadists as being the ‘weirdos’, until they got so strong that they started attacking their own people if they weren’t religious enough!
we HAVE to stop this spread of this brand of militant minded chareidism before it gets too late and people wind up dead! they’ve already thrown ACID at a young girls face when she didn’t live up to their standards of judaism. they’ve already attacked other jews, whether secular or religious, for not acting the way THEY believe we all need to act. I have personally spoken to religious people who’s lives were threatened because of their beliefs, because some ‘rav’ told his talmidim that people who believe this or that are apikorsim and that their ‘dam is hefker’, that they have the status of ‘moridin v’al maalin’.
these are NOT isolated incidents of restless youths, these are planned by their hierarchal commanders in the ‘rabbinic’ world. if we don’t act soon, this will get way out of hand in a very short time.

Forget the frum angle. How base can our own people become when there is no minimal respect for terror victims? Kids may be kids, but this outrageous act is
a result of what these kids heard, or did not hear, from their parents and/or Rabaiim.
If there is no follow-up condemnations by their family and schools, it only confirms
the depths to which some people have fallen.

Is there a belief or ruling in the ultra-orthodox community concerning memorials? What would be the motive for the behavior? I can understand interested disinterest in memorials (not vandalism) because people everywhere in the world are immersed in memorials to trajedy. I for one am absolutely disgusted that the WTC site will have a building named ‘freedom tower.’ But is this the motivation of the vandalism? BUT THEN #9 says: “I saw the 5 boys when they arrested them they are not even orthodox this is YNET at work to bash charidim and a bunch of losers(commentators) jump to conclusions as if they are perfect. did anon’s 1-5 ever saw something positive ” WHY COULDN’T the story be more agit-prop? There’s no shortage of that in world which headlines Obama, global warming, Osama, along with Islamic strength/mania and Western weakness. Is it marketing, in the case of the vandalism story?
