Egypt – Israelis Urged to Leave Sinai Immediately

Egypt – The Israeli Counter-Terrorism Bureau on Tuesday warned all Israelis currently visiting Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula to leave immediately, citing a concrete threat that terrorists were planning to kidnap Israeli nationals.

“We call on all Israelis now in Sinai to leave at once and return to Israel,” said the warning. “Families of Israelis now in Sinai are requested to make contact and update them of this travel warning.”

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau had issued a travel advisory prior to the Passover holiday, warning Israeli citizens to avoid visiting Sinai. That warning did not refer to specific threats, but also mentioned the possibility of kidnappings.

Despite the warning, Israel’s Airports Authority recorded a 36 percent jump in the number of Israelis traveling to Sinai this Passover compared to last. Some 69,000 people passed through Israel’s southern border during the holiday.

Sinai was one of a number of places tagged with a travel advisory before Passover.

I thought that Jews are forbidden to return to Mitzrayim. Are they all non religious or just stupid? The latter has no cure.

Some of you might remember a few years back a warning from Israeli intelligance regarding a possible threat on Israelis visiting Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula before passover, over the passover perioud more Israelis then ever before visited the Sinai Peninsula and BAM there was a few suicide bombs, B”H only a few Israelis were hurt; but where do these secular Israelis have the courage to just ignore specific warnings? they dont even believe in god to save them in time of need!

is the sinai halachacly mitzraim? Most probably not. In the torah its just referred to as “midbar sinai”, not mitzraim?

It must be cool to have a seder in Egypt. Imagine an outdoor seder there with a view of the pyramids in the background.

I am in dahab, Egypt as we speak, Thank g-d i read VIN even on vacation.

I did’nt know about any threat till I saw it here. I’m wondering if I should go around collecting the Israelis off the beaches.

I just grilled some mehadrin hot-dogs with a few ex-yeshiva boys on the beach.
