JetBlue said in a statement that said the pilot was removed from duty at Logan Airport on Thursday for health reasons and that no one was in danger of being harmed.

“At no point were any customers or aircraft in danger. We are working closely with Boston authorities to ensure our crew member receives appropriate medical attention,” the statement read.

Earlier reports said he was removed from duty after sending his girlfriend an email saying he would crash the plane if they did not reconcile.

Another report suggested he sent his girlfriend a text threatening to harm himself. His girlfriend reportedly alerted authorities, who apprehended him — and confiscated his gun — before he boarded the plane.

WHDH.com said he was taken to Mass General hospital for an evaluation.

The incident comes after a man from Rhode Island was caught trying to sneak several weapons — including knives, box cutters and a stun gun — on board a Boston-bound flight from Puerto Rico.

Jose Pol, 59, was arrested before he could board the May 17 flight and Transportation Safety Administration officers found the weapons in his carry-on bags.

What does the pilot having a gun have to do with a passenger having a gun? According to federal law, pilots can legally carry a weopon aboard an aircraft after recieving proper training.

The pilots should be psychiatrically screened; I don’t think that mental tests are routinely performed on pilots. About eleven years ago, there was an EgyptAir pilot who deliberately crashed his plane into the Atlantic Ocean, killing over 200 people. Prior to the crash, he yelled “Allah Achbar”. The NTSB concluded that the crash was deliberate. However, the Egyptians wouldn’t accept that conclusion. However, they have never offered a convincing scenario for that accident.
