Economic daily Doniay-e Eghtesda reported this week that a Bank Melli branch in Mashad, about 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) east of Tehran, offers banking services to women, by women. Bank Melli is one of Iran’s top-five banks.

The paper quoted Bank Melli head Mahmoud Reza Khavari as saying the new branch — the first of dozens planned — is part of an effort to allow women to bank in an environment free of interaction with men and a reflection of women’s “significant role” in financial affairs.

Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, authorities have pushed for greater separation of the sexes in places such as hospitals, parks, universities and public transportation.

I am waiting for women’s only cab service like in Saudi Arabia. I would feel a lot better about my daughters taking cabs with a female driver.

I am the poster of 3. Hashem created a world with men and women. Its healthy to have normal interractions with the other gender. Of course I understand that personal relationships should be limited to a future or current spouse.

However going to a bank and a man interacts with a woman doing a transaction and moving on is healthy. A society that needs women only banks shows that the core is messed up.

    Thankyou for reading.

I’m all for this—more women at their own branch makes it less likely I’ll be stuck behind some yenta chatting with the teller for 5 minutes for a 30 second transaction.

its sad that the charedim could never acheive this. you couldnt find enougn chareidi wives with the skills needed to run a bank. you wont even find chareidi men with the skills needed to run a bank.

Surprising no one commented on the flags in the picture. The Iranian flag with the flags of its closest and dearest friends, Germany and the European Union.

I see a printer in the picture, but not a monitor. I would like to see if the monitor has white-out marks on it.
