Jerusalem – Poll Majority Israelis Fed Up With Ultra Orthodox Parties

Uri RegevJerusalem – public will no longer tolerate selling Israel’s future to the haredi parties, Rabbi Uri Regev, director of Hiddush – For Religious Freedom and Equality in Israel, said, in response to a public opinion poll his NGO recently conducted.

The general public thinks the haredi community shows disrespect for and rejects democracy, according to the survey. Fifty-eight percent of the Jewish public supports the establishment of a national unity coalition government that would include Kadima, but not the the haredi Shas or United Torah Judaism parties.

The survey data “demonstrates unequivocally that the haredi parties managed to make themselves an anathema among the general public that supports the rule of law and democracy,” Regev said.

While 95% of secular Jews displayed an overall disapproval of the haredi community, a surprising 62% of modern Orthodox Jews expressed similar views.

“Israelis are no longer willing to accept the sale of Zionism and the future of Israel to the haredi parties through dubious political deals. It is time Prime Minister [Binyamin] Netanyahu heeds the cry of the people and establishes a national unity government capable of bringing about a sorely needed civil revolution,” Regev said.

According to the poll, 83% of the Jewish public considers the struggle by Ashkenazi haredi parents in Emmanuel to have their daughters study separately from Sephardi girls whose families do not follow Ashkenazi haredi practices unjust.

In addition, 75% of the population supports the High Court of Justice’s decision to eliminate income support funding for married yeshiva students from the 2011 state budget, saying the payments are discriminatory because there are no such payments for married secular students.

“The public is telling Netanyahu: You do not have a mandate to continue undermining equality by passing legislation that bypasses court rulings and provides ‘pork barrels’ and preferential grants to yeshiva students,” Regev said.

He continued, “You do not have a mandate to make kosher the despicable racism in education through fictitious compromises. This is the hour of urgency. Israel’s democratic and Zionist character is under assault. Netanyahu has to tell the haredi parties: Enough!” The poll reported that 83% of Likud voters and 100% of Israel Beiteinu voters condemned the Emmanuel struggle as anti-democratic, and 73% of Likud voters and 88% of Israel Beiteinu voters supported the court’s decision to halt the income support for married yeshiva students.

“Israel Beiteinu – whose main constituency is the new immigrant community that is the primary victim of the submission to the haredi parties – as well as the Labor Party, should stand firm and make it clear to Netanyahu that they will not be part of a government that subjects Zionism to suicide and exhibits serial surrender to haredi blackmail,” Regev said.

The public opinion survey, commissioned by Hiddush and conducted by Smith Research on June 27-28, was based on a sample of 500 respondents representing Israel’s adult Jewish population.

Democracy? i voted in the likud elections regarding the pullout from Gaza. Sharon said he would abide by the majority of the likud part”ys voters. We had a majority of 60-40 not to pull out from gaza and hand control to Abbas. Sharon announced after the vote he was not binded by the Likud vote-his own party. The rest is history-residents thrown out without restitution as promised and scud missiles in the Negev towns.Unfortunately democracy is only to be adhered to by Haredim but Chilonim are not binded to it by political expediency.

Uri Regev is a wannabee ultra-leftist with a smaller following than Meretz. His bogus polls are like J Street bogus polls: crafted to get the results in advance.

There is a lot that is wrong with parties like Shas and UTJ, but Uri Regev is only jealous that they are more successful than he is.

I actually agree and I’m a from what they would call orthodox party. Why can’t they follow the law like the rest of the country. Just because you’re frum doesn’t mean you’re above the law. If the law of the country doesn’t agree with the law of the land you still need to follow it. Jews live and lived that way all through galus. Even when mosiach comes you’ll need to follow the laws which you might not always agree with.

If the haredi people would just SUE the secular media for slander, and obviously win, being that there was really nothing against the sefardi people, as there was an article in theyeshivaworld dot com, by one of the parents, in which he claims that anybody who signed a letter to dress to a certain standard and not to use “coarse” language, was accepted, both had to sign, ashkenazi and sefardi parents. Whoever didnt sign, wasnt accepted. whoever did was as is evident in having 30% (which is pretty good in a ashkenazi school) (dont tell me that in an ashkenazi school you would expect to see 50, 50. then it wouldnt be ashkenazi at all!) was accepted. Bums sway public opinion by the way they portray any particular party in the media. THIS IS PURE RACISM IN THE FULL EXTENT!

Moshiach is getting closer… the tumah level in the Holy Land is getting to be intolerable and Hashem will need to intervene to save us “Haredis” in the nick of time! Shabbos (truly – Olam Haba) may be close at hand…

The religious right must face the fact, that if we accept government money, either in the form of stipends for Kollel yungerleit or funding for schools and Yeshivos.
The proposed cancellation of some of these funds in the 2011 Budget may force more young men into the workforce, which in many case will be a positive development; Kollel is not a right but a privilege for those highly dedicate individuals who are willing to sacrifice themselves in the pursuit of Limmud HaTorah Lishmoh.
The secular community are going to upset when we treat them with distain.
Secular Zionism has failed, but we lack humility toward our not as yet Torah observant brothers and sister.
Is the Abishter happy with our behavior?.

No surprise that the sheigetz Uri Regev y”sh spouts this garbage. No surprise that Ynet picked it up. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that an orthodox site quotes it as if it means something. The chilonim have always hated the dossim, now no more then ever; but when they’re building a coalition they need the votes and they’ll do what it takes to get them. And since the charedi population keeps increasing, so will their votes. That’s reality, folks, and resho’im like Regev can drink seawater if they like.

I am perplexed. Is the state of Israel more important than Yiddishkeit. Israel cannot survive without the Chareidim, especially those who are worthy enough to sit and learn. They give Israel the strength to survive. We are nothing without our faith.

Israel is a banana republic with a bunch of backward Israeli bumpkins running (around) the government.

Their anthem should be “Bring in the clowns.”

The Hareidim deserve whatever they get from the minority of Chilonim. As I wrote here many times weeks ago, the silence by all the Roshei Yeshivas and big rebbes during the recent violent demonstartions (except Bnei Brak rabbonim) will bring a decades long backlash on Hareidim . Already, for 60 years the seculars discriminate against hiring frum Jews.
Haredim rebbes must unite, get unified politicians, get industry fow the majority of their people and provide the needed soldiers to the army as the IDF will accommodate them.
Otherwise they cannot work and no longer can they schnorrer from their poor brothers in America who have their own Depression. Those days are over! We need to send our meshelochim to Israel. They all own their apts (while we are being foreclosed by the thousands.

I find it sickening that the Reform Communists are now seeking to spread hatred in Israel with the goal of destroying Jewish values there like they have done here in the US. The Reform are sick and the only good thing about them is their number is going to rapidly decrease as they die off and become homosexual or have childless couples. HaShem Yirachem Aleinu !!!

American Indians have given Regev the name Walking Eagle because he is too full of excrement to fly.
Fact of life, Israelis have smelled the coffee and seen what happens when the left is in power. Hareidim are needed to keep an overwhelming Right majority. The sloce of pie they ask for is not unreasonable. As for disrespect, we disrespect those that trample on the law and use it for their own purposes. Such as The Barzilai Emergency room COULD NOT be stopped because of graves yet today after the graves were moved, it is being halted because of ……………… a TREE! The shouts by the left of Pikuach Nefesh no longer apply when a TREE is in danger.
Regev and his bunch are nothing but hypocrites!

that confirms my beliefs that most secular are anti religious rascists. (maybe they have reasons, that still wouldn’t disqualify them from being called racists)

This guy seems like just another setup; there are many ‘rabbis’ who are just politicians; that being said, if he has a gripe, it should be against the Labor Party, Meretz and Kadima, the phony Likud which calls itself right, but acts ‘left’. These chareidi parties are also for show because they really don’t have the clout to do anything and eventually have to give in to the bidding of the ‘Labor’ or ‘Kadima’ parties who really run the country behind the scenes. Think this rabbi is another means of trying to rid the country of the religious Jews, be they chareidi, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, or nationalist religious Jews. Notice that he pits the Ashkenazi & Sephardi against each other; rather than religious & radical secularists, therefore, promoting racism. Also, love the way he stands up for the ‘high’ court in Israel. Let’s pray hard that we’re in the last ‘minutes’ of pregnancy representing chevlai Moshiach, b’rachamim!

There are no charedi parties in Israeli politics. Yidden don’t participate in the medina. The Israelis are so stupid they can’t tell a dati leumi guy from a Charedi. Regev is a shagitz, nobody except the self-hating koifer left listen to him.
