New York – For her 13th birthday in June, Alison Wasserman gave her ailing dad a gift of love — she raised more than $300,000 for brain-cancer research.

It had been two years since her lawyer father, Craig Wasserman, 49, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. For the “mitzvah,” or good-deed part of her bat mitzvah, Alison decided “to help my dad and raise money.”
The Upper East Side girl teamed with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Equinox fitness clubs for a “Kids for Survival” fund-raiser in January.
The teenager — who has been nominated for a New York Post Liberty Medal in the Young Heart category by family friend Sandra Carreon-John — has philanthropy in her blood. Her grandfather, the late Bert Wasserman, was a former chief financial officer of Time Warner who was a generous donor.
Alison says she is learning valuable lessons from her dad. “He’s taught me to always be resilient and never give up,” she said. “He’s always had a positive attitude. He never complains.”
And her father has learned a lot about his daughter. “I’m so proud of Ali,” he said.
What a true golden heart this young girl has.

In Zechus for raising such a wonderful child, may Hashem send Malach Rafoel to bensch him with a Refuah Shelaimah.
To all those yidden whose understanding of daas torah would limit opportunities and subordinate jewish girls to the home under the control of their fathers or husbands, maybe this girl will strech your cerebral limits and realize what greatness can come from jewish women.
incredible what this young lady did our childrenm should learn from her what is correct and proper cbehavior to ones parents
To number three: Your dumb comment shows what type of person you are.
refuah shilimah
#3: You are truly an idiot. What would possess you to make such a moronic and uncalled for comment about such a wonderful child. This is a true “feel good” story – then you have to throw cold water on it.
What a beautiful mitzvah…Kol Hakavod to the Wassermans for raising such a wonderful young girl.
It shows their dedication to the jewish values of torah umitzvos and maasim toyvim.
May Mr.Wasserman have a refuah shelema bekorov mamash.
Its interesting how this young girl from a seemingly family modern jewish family has brought such a kiddush hashem on klal yisroel.

and NO she did not ask the grandfather AH to give her the money…she is not from lakewood or satmar…normal people like the Wassermans earn money the old fashioned way..they work for it…like Allison did.
Guys. Chill. I think number three was trying to say — she could have asked her ziedy for money. But she didn’t. She collected the money!
No. 10 you’re full with hatred against Hasidic jews, God knows why. And on a side point she did RAISE the money.
no. 10 well said you hit it head on
Number 15 people who don’t do anything but knock hate people who do. Satmar is known for it’s chessed both to the frum and the secular also. All the liberals who knock the conservative about how selfish they are are all waiting for the government to do something but not them. They save their own money for personal use. Maybe Satmar go from strength to strength

Your hate knows no bounds! SHAME ON YOU! here we have a wonderful girl who did something really inspiring, has nothing to do with orthodox, (which in your ignorance, knows no facts, which is that there are SOOOOO MANY orthodox jewish ladies girls and wives who keep on working constantly to help even people like you! who hate them and waste no second slandering them! They have many many more organizations, (many people together), AND many individuals who did sooo much more for another Jew, than you can dream of in a lifetime. (sure, you still have to try to dream of a jewish girl doing something constructive for another human being and only then can you try imagining what these wonderful role models do.
I hope you wake up one day (being in the hospital for only simchas) and see for yourself what these orthodox women do.
In fact Orthodox women and girls often raise money for people they hardly know, with no fanfare, and no coverage.
